The Laundry has completed the installation of a Flare Audio X3/Q18 sound system for its sizeable basement event space
UK - London Fields' new establishment, The Laundry, has just completed the installation of a Flare Audio X3/Q18 sound system for its sizeable basement event space and café/bar, to handle an eclectic mix of live music, club nights, cinema and screenings. The brainchild of Radiohead band member Ed O'Brien and businessman Raj Nayak, The Laundry brings together a host of creative and musical talent, comprising 26 separate creative areas including the basement and café/bar areas.

Raj's experience includes running a venue in Shoreditch, giving him a clear perspective on what he wanted from The Laundry's new sound system:

"We wanted a high quality sound with great separation that would also give us flexibility, in terms of its size and portability. With such a mix of events in the basement, we need to be able to move the boxes around easily and even store them when they are not required. It was also important to avoid having something huge for the sake of it - while the sound is very much our main product, our emphasis is on clarity and quality.

"Flare Audio's X3 speakers delivered on all counts. They have the clarity of studio monitors, with real warmth and a good bottom end, as well as being well-balanced and compact. We have also installed a Flare system up in the café bar, giving us a great complement to our signature sound in the basement. "

The Laundry's main basement system is configured with X3-15C Bi Amp point source loudspeakers with Q18 subs, all powered by Lab.gruppen PLM amplifiers. For fills, the Orbital Sound team installed V8C/V12C combinations, with Lab.gruppen IPD amplifiers. In the ground floor café bar, V8C loudspeakers have been used to give clean crisp background coverage - again powered from Lab.gruppen IPD Amplifiers. The Laundry has a Yamaha LS9-32 for live acts and the whole system has sound web for routing and control.

Orbital Sound was responsible for installing the system, elaborating, "The objective was to keep the sound clean, and quality was the main priority. With the diverse range of performers booked into this exciting new venue, we knew Flare could deliver what they were looking for, from those intimate acoustic acts to drum and bass, Techno & Dub. The Laundry is capable of delivering super-club dB levels with no distortion throughout the venue, something that is critical to the Flare approach to sound quality - meaning that you don't leave the room with ringing ears."
