Reggae News - A statue of late reggae legend Bob Marley has been unveiled in a small Serbian village during a rock festival as a token of peace in the Balkans. Musicians from Croatia and Serbia were joined by rock fans for the midnight ceremony in Banatski Sokolac.

Organisers said Marley, who died in 1981, "promoted peace and tolerance in his music". Serbia recently erected a statue of iconic film character Rocky, while Mostar in Bosnia has one of Bruce Lee. Another Serbian village put up a statue to actor Johnny Weissmuller, best known for his depiction of Tarzan. Serbian musician Jovan Matic and veteran Croatian rock star Dado Topic took the covers off the Marley statue at the Rock Village event.

Festival News - A huge blaze at the Reading Festival which spread to 19 vehicles in a car park was started accidently with a barbecue, police have revealed. The fire was under control within an hour and no-one was injured. The three-day festival, which began on Friday, attracted 80,000 people.

Live News - Madonna has begun her new world tour in Cardiff, proving to fans that she can still cut it on stage at the age of 50. In a typically energetic performance, the pop superstar played two hours of hits from her 25-year career.

Retirement News - George Michael has played his two "final" major concerts - but suggested he is not ready to retire from singing. The pop star announced at Earls Court that he had written a Christmas song, which would be released as a festive single. Michael has said he will leave the "bells and whistles" of large-scale tours behind because he wants a "quieter life". He has been on the road for almost two years with his 25 Live world tour - which was his first outing for 15 years.

Sports News - The Beijing Olympics concluded with the anticipated spectacular grand finale, with veteran rocker Jimmy Page staging another comeback - with the aid of a double decker bus.

Last words - Noted record producer and man-about-the-music-business Jerry Wexler has died. When asked what he would like inscribed on his tombstone, he is said to have replied: "More bass."
