Festival Update - U2 are to headline next year's Glastonbury Festival, helping the event celebrate its 40th anniversary with their first appearance there. The band will lead the line-up at the Somerset show on Friday 25 June. It will be their first festival gig for more than 25 years and will see them make a flying visit to the UK in the middle of a North American tour. A statement from festival organiser Michael Eavis said: "The 26-year-old rumour has finally come true. At last, the biggest band in the world are going to play the best festival in the world. Nothing could be better for our 40th anniversary party. And there are even more surprises in the pipeline . . ."

Posthumous Awards (1) - The Music Producers Guild (UK) has announced that Les Paul will be the recipient of its 2010 Joe Meek Award for Innovation in Production. The Award will be presented at the annual Music Producers Guild Awards, which takes place at the Café de Paris in London, on 11 February 2010. Les Paul, who died on 12 August 2009 at the age of 94, was best known as the inventor of the Gibson Les Paul guitar, and a Grammy Award-winning guitarist. The early prototype of his namesake guitar, known as 'The Log', was initially dismissed by Gibson as "a broomstick with pickups". However, the company eventually adopted Les Paul's designs and went on to create one of world's most used and copied guitars.

Posthumous Awards (2) - Michael Jackson has made history by winning four posthumous prizes at the American Music Awards. The wins made Jackson, who died in June at the age of 50, the most honoured artist in the ceremony's history with a career total of 23 accolades. But country star Taylor Swift was the big winner on the night, winning five prizes including artist of the year. Less successful was Jennifer Lopez, who slipped and landed on her rear during a dance routine for her latest single. The singer was unhurt in the brief tumble and carried on with her performance.
