The annual Silver Clef awards honour artists from across the music industry, while raising money for the music therapy charity. Nordoff Robbins chairman David Munns said Coldplay were most deserving of the award. "Coldplay are one of the British music industry's great successes," he said. "They have dominated the British music scene for a decade and their music has influenced a generation." Organisers hope to raise £500,000 from the awards to fund 20,000 music therapy sessions for children and adults across the UK.
Record Sales - A record 114,000 tickets for the BBC Proms 2013 have sold since booking opened last Saturday, a 17% rise on 2012. More than 100,000 tickets sold online, while the rest were bought by phone, post or in person from the Albert Hall. BBC Proms director Roger Wright described the "record-breaking" sales as a "thrill". The Doctor Who Proms will return for the show's 50th anniversary, while BBC 6 Music will host its first Prom with Brit award winner Laura Marling.
Island News - Punk legends Buzzcocks are to headline the Channel Islands' longest running music festival, the Vale Earth Fair. Rob Roussel, one of the organisers, said: "Buzzcocks are one of the few bands performing today that genuinely deserve 'legendary' status." The event raises money for humanitarian organisations and is being held at Guernsey's Vale Castle on 25 August. Folk legend Vin Garbutt has also been confirmed for the event.
