Presented by the Theatrical Management Association, the annual TMA Awards recognise work being produced in the regional theatres around the country; the Lighting category is sponsored by the Association of Lighting Designers.
At the same time, White Light and whatsonstage.com are announce that nominations are now open for the 2010 What's On Stage Theatregoers' Choice Awards; as in 2009, the Best Lighting Designer category is being sponsored by White Light.
Covering principally shows running in London's West End, anyone can nominate a person or production in any category for professional productions which opened in London between 1 December 2008 and 30 November 2009. Nominations can be made at the whatsonstage.com website until the end of November, with the final shortlist being announced on 4 December. The winners are then decided by public vote - with over 35,000 people voting in 2008/9 - before the awards are presented on 14 February.
"We are delighted to continue our support of the What's On Stage Awards," comments White Light's managing director, Bryan Raven. "Having a category for Best Lighting in both these and the TMA awards recognises the importance of lighting to theatrical productions - and gives some well-deserved public recognition to the many talented lighting designers who we are lucky enough to work with on so many shows."
