David ‘Tree' Tordoff has swapped the laboratory for the road
UK - After several years working in the research and development of Yamaha's live mixing products, David 'Tree' Tordoff has swapped the laboratory for the road, being appointed the company's new digital systems business development manager.

Having worked for over five years at the company's European R&D centre in Chiswick, London, Tree has extensive knowledge of Yamaha's live mixing consoles. He also has 20 years experience working as a freelance sound engineer for a range of artists, including Radiohead, Peter Gabriel and Duran Duran (who he still works with when required).

Tree's new role with Yamaha covers the UK and Ireland, delivering training to groups and advising individuals and Yamaha dealers about getting the most from the company's digital mixing consoles.

"I have worked for some time in the 'closed world' of R&D and really wanted to get out and apply my technical knowledge to help customers and dealers," he says. "Having a lot of experience as a monitor engineer and still regularly using the consoles as such means that I have a great understanding of the issues facing engineers on a daily basis."

One side of live production that has come to the fore in the past few years is digital networking. Now becoming a fundamental part of the industry, it is a subject that Tree is ideally positioned to advise on.

"A particularly important facet of what I'll be doing is digital networking. We believe that it's the future and the more we can help engineers and rental companies to apply it, the more benefits it will bring them," he says.
