Television studio at the Filmakademie Ludwigsburg, with the Pronto! and Voyager consoles, hoists and track system.
Germany - From March of this year, students of the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg, Germany, have had the opportunity to learn everything about the craft of broadcast production in a fully equipped, state-of-the-art television studio. transtechnik Lichtsysteme of Holzkirchen, Germany, project managed the installation and also supplied the lighting and studio automation equipment for the almost 380sq.m TV studios.

The studio is truly multifunctional - used for classes in cutting, montage, and series formatting, as well as for film and television productions, lectures, movie screenings, and other events. To familiarize students with the latest technologies, the Filmakademie has placed a high value on modern (as well as standard) studio equipment. transtechnik Lichtsysteme could offer everything from a single source: from planning the ceiling construction all the way through to supplying the "brains" of the studio, delivering a complete Voyager system with a compact, centrally-located control rack. The equipment in the studio ceiling includes 34 transtechnik Lichtsysteme MTS-brand hoists, 16 tape hoists, a media telescope and a three-tier track system for the multi-coloured curtains. The entire overhead machinery will be operated via the Voyager system, which communicates bi-directionally between the connected devices via Profibus.

TL's project leader Mark Tobler remarks on a particularly impressive feature of the newest MTS-hoists: "The hoists have a load limit of 100kg, whereby any point on the hoist may carry the load of 100kg, without any restrictions and without causing any safety issues. So it doesn't matter if it's equipped with a lot of different spotlights or with just one heavy monitor at the end of the hoist; the movements are carried out accurately and smoothly."

For the lighting control, the film academy settled on two transtechnik Lichtsysteme FDX2000 dimmer racks (96 x 2.5 kVA and 48 x 5 kVA) as well as two Avab-brand Pronto! consoles.
