Club Tango set out to be Beijing's leading nightclub, with a need for a best-quality sound system to match its up-market image. Already attracting top-name DJs and acts from around the world, including DJ Sasha as part of his Asian Tour, Club Tango offers its clientele up-to-the-minute dance and electronica programming, as well as a variety of live events. Phoenix Audio's design had to provide the necessary flexibility, as well as the capability to deliver a high-clarity, fatigue-free result at generous listening levels. To this end, 16 QLight TQ-315 bi-amped units provide mid-high coverage throughout the main club area, and the system includes eighteen Turbosound TSW-718i low-frequency cabinets - each with 2 x 18" bass drivers - to ensure no lack of bottom-end punch, whatever the material. The system design also includes further sub-bass units - the ultra-low frequency TSW-124 enclosures - to provide as wide an audio spectrum as possible. Loudspeaker control is handled by four Turbosound LMS-D6 management systems.
Phoenix Audio's technical director, Mac Lo, said: "Many other clubs and venues in the Beijing area, such as Club Banana, feature Turbosound systems, and the brand has built up a high-profile reputation. The sound quality of these other installations has proved to be very popular, hence our decision to specify Turbosound for the Club Tango project. Our company won this contract against aggressive competition from some 20 installers and suppliers - from mainland China and Hong Kong - with our Turbosound-based solution winning against other major brands from Europe and the USA. The system has successfully given the venue the quality and flexibility it was seeking, and has helped Club Tango to establish its high reputation rapidly - everyone, including the club's owners, their clients, and the DJs, are very happy with the results. For our company, the success of this project further underlines the Turbosound loudspeakers as being optimum club products, irrespective of a venue's size and scale."
Phoenix Audio equipped the venue's Mango Bar with its own well-specified system, based on QLight loudspeakers, along with TXD-121 units for DJ monitoring. A total of eight TQ-315 enclosures fulfil the mid-high duties, complemented by six TQ-425 low-frequency units, and with two LMS-D4 units handling the loudspeaker control. The main club and the bar systems are powered by Crest Audio amplifiers, with the installations Mackie and Midas mixing consoles, plus Rane, TC-electronic and Yamaha signal processing.
