L-R: Ingo Kayser, Sven Rose and Maik Mackowski at Kosmos.
Germany - The Kosmos, located close to the famous Alexanderplatz in Berlin was the largest most modern and popular cinema of the former GDR. In the old times it had more than 1000 seats. The building now stands under landmark protection, and since 2005 has been operated by Kosmos KG Berlin, which offers made-to-measure entertainment concepts for all kinds of events.

Kosmos offers five different halls plus a summer terrace and a lounge. The entrance hall has a capacity of approximately 600 people, in addition to two conference areas and a theatre auditorium.

The oval main hall extends over 1000sq.m. More than 10% of the space is reserved for the main stage with a 18x9m cinema/video screen and two 4x3m screens on the stage sides. Halls 2 to 4 are mainly used for seminars and theatre performances. The main hall is designed for big events and club dancing.

Two 10kW JBL Sound-Power-Systems are responsible for the sound. In terms of DJ and Video jockey equipment the Kosmos uses two Pioneer CDJ-1000 CD systems and Technics MKII 1210 turntables, as well as a tractor system from Native Instruments with everything controlled with a Dynacord M1 sound mixer. For the visual background effects Edirol V4 data from a Maxedia is used. The VJ can use two CDJX1 players and a Pioneer DJM 600.

The lighting rig in the main hall consists of 20 Color Spots 575 AT, six Color Wash 575 XT from Robe, eight Ultralite ULQ10FRN Quadro 1000AL/FR, 24 LED PAR 64s, four Martin Atomic Strobes plus Colour Scrollers and 4-light Blinders. A Zero 88 Frog 2 controls the lighting rig.

Sven Rose, technical manager at the Kosmos, started his career 1987 as a DJ and Ingo Kayser in 1991 as a lighting operator. Both give the highly positive statements about the Frog 2. "Apart from the price, the user friendliness and the fast access came first in terms of the decisions for the Frog 2. We tried many consoles until "the frog landed" at the Kosmos", says Kayser.

The setup in the smaller hall features two Technics turntables, a Pioneer CD Player and a Dynacord sound mixer, and Rane Serum system. In terms of lighting there are 14 Clay Paky Miniscans, four Highend Technobeams, 12 PAR 64s, eight LED PA%s and a power strobe, all controlled by a second Frog 2.
