As Bristol prepared to hand over its 'European Green Capital' title to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, residents gathered in Bristol's Colston Hall to reflect over the innovations in 2015 and consider the legacy of Green Capital 2015, hearing exciting plans for the year ahead.
REM contracted a range of local suppliers, including Utopium and Evans Audio Visual Staging, to help transform Colston Hall where this event took place.
Within the main Colston Hall auditorium, Utopium installed a truss system, which enabled drape reveals throughout the ceremony. Following the presentation, moving drapes revealed a procession of children with illuminated umbrellas, first seen in the launch ceremony.
Utopium also installed a flown truss box to create a 45ft x 14ft screen, which was dressed by Evans Staging, who also provided the video and sound. The under screen drape was lit using LED's and Chauvet Nexus 4 x 4 LED panels, installed behind the stage to backlight the umbrellas, as well as on the truss system for audience lighting. 12 Mac Quantum LED moving spots and 12 Chauvet 4192 Led moving heads were also installed to create optimum event dynamics.
During the Green Capital 2015 launch event, Jade Kindar-Martin from Cirque Bijou cycled on a tightrope 100ft above the city, with trapeze artist Karine Mauffrey hanging below in an illuminated dress. Tying these two events together and surprising guests, Utopium hung this dress in the atrium of Colston Hall on a cantilevered counter balance truss system, lit using SGM P5's.
In the first floor bar, Utopium installed three truss towers, along with P5's, Chavuet 460 moving spots and a sprinkling of Smartbat LED wireless uplighters.
Utopium's Colin Bodenham commented, "Following on from a momentous year as Green Capital 2015 and our involvement with the launch events, we are proud to be involved in the Closing Ceremony, working alongside REM to reflect on a spectacular year. Keeping in line with the Green Capital ethos, we used the latest energy efficient LED lighting instruments to illuminate the venue and show that creativity needn't cost the earth."
