Canada - The Modern is a newly- opened lounge/bar/nightclub located on Alexander Street in Vancouver's thriving Gastown, which mainly consists of turn of the 20th century industrial buildings, which have been converted into highly sought after contemporary condos, restaurants and clubs.

The Modern club is located within a heritage building and has also been a club in the past. As in any thriving district, venues re-vamp and switch hands at a steady pace, each time reaching for ever more dazzling designs in order to attract the much sought after clientele. Modern club's new owners decided in addition to a complete architectural overhaul, a new sound system design was in order.

LTS Professional Sound & Lighting had done a sound design for the client at another club with similar architectural components using Adamson products. "We found that using Adamson speakers at a previous installation at another popular nightclub in Vancouver, the customer was very pleased with their performance and consistency and we decided to keep a similar combination in the new club," says Alan LeTexier.

The venue's public space is divided between two levels and within both levels there are distinct dance floor and lounge areas. Alan LeTexier used two M15s flown horizontally due to the club's ceiling height restrictions, using the MASS rigging system single axis with c-clamp method and two SX Subs on the ground for the larger first level dance floor.

The first dance floor's system is placed strategically to double up as a DJ monitor rig without creating overlap. The second dance floor is filled with sound reinforcement provided by four M15s also flown and a single SX Sub. The upstairs lounge houses four CB-1s while the downstairs intimate lounge features two. Lab.gruppen's amplifiers power the entire installation with their C 16:4s, C 48:4s and C 68:4s and all Adamson M15s use proprietary M-Series processing.

For the Modern lighting install LTS used six SGM Idea Spot 250s, four SGM Genio Mobile LEDs, one Pilot 3000 Digital Lighting Console, four Martin Acrobat Scanners, four American DJ Concept Scanners, two 2" square box trussing, and three mirror balls in each dance floor area.

Tony Heaney, general manager of the Modern, commented on the sound system, "I'm impressed with the overall sound quality in the club; the reviews on sound quality have been incredible and more importantly, we are getting compliments from all of our customers: The dance floor pounds."
