Sequoias (pronounced Se-koi-as), which opened its doors to the public at the end of May, features a bar counter made of solid ice, a spectacular view of the city and a bar and cocktail menu designed by two of the best 'mixologists' and cocktail flairers in the world. Christian Delpech, 15 times world flair champion and World Champion mixologist Toby Ellis, both from Las Vegas, were brought to South Africa specifically to help design the menu and to train Sequoias' barmen in flair, mixology and technical bartending.
Owner of Sequoias, Shelley Chadwick, a South African ex-pat now living in Washington, conceptualised the new venue with help from inspirational clubs such as Pure in the USA, Red Square in Russia, and Tangerine in the UK.
The architecture and design of Sequoias is unique, so the EAW audio system installed by Surgesound had to be customised according to its distinctive design and individual character. The main system covers the dance floor and bar area, while EAW commercial products were used for the restaurant area, VIP section and balcony. The entire audio installation was exclusively wired with Van Damme cable supplied by VDC Trading.
"A venue like Sequoias demanded excellent quality products and we wouldn't have chosen anything else but Van Damme for our unique cabling requirements," says Surgesound's Andrew Rowan. "We have extremely high expectations when it comes to working with cable and we have yet to come across a cabling product that out-performs Van Damme on any level."
For this particular installation, Surgesound used 4 pair Blue Series Studio Grade cable, 2 pair Blue Series Studio Grade cable, Classic Mic Cable and Black Series 2x2 5mm cable.
"Van Damme cable offers incredible signal quality and durability," Rowan adds. "It is also very easy to work with because it is so flexible, while remaining incredibly strong and reliable."
