In conjunction with audio specialists Delta Sound, Fisher Marine installed thousands of metres of cable - all of which was supplied by UK-based cable company VDC Trading. "These are big ships," says Fisher Marine's head Ken Fisher, "so there was certainly a lot of cable involved."
Van Damme Ecoflex range of Low Smoke Zero Halogen cables is claimed to be particularly suitable for marine installations where low hazard cable infrastructure is required. Shipboard power and telecommunications cables face particularly stringent safety requirements and must comply with part 359 of the IEC 60092 directive relating to the sheathing used, so that they don't become a fire hazard.
Among the products supplied to Fisher Marine were Cat 5 data cable and Defence Standard data cable, both of which are used for live data transfer; Firesafe cable, which is specially designed to comply with tough marine fire safety requirements; Classic Van Damme microphone cable, and Van Damme studio grade 4-pair Blue Series cable, which is used in sound systems to link up outboard equipment such as limiters and compressors.
Destiny and Celebration are now back in service and will spend the summer cruising the Mediterranean, Atlantic and North Sea.
