Davis is one of Britain's most successful TV lighting directors, with a long string of credits to his name. From Robot Wars to The Proms, Royal Variety Performance to the Royal Wedding and many, many more in between, he has a vast experience of mid to high-end shows in the area of classical and light entertainment shows. An avid user of Compulite systems for many years he felt the time was right for him to invest in his own console and the Vector Green was ideal as it is very portable, yet capable of handling any show for the foreseeable future. After trying the console out on a few smaller shows, Bernie jumped in with both feet and decided to use the console on this year's Royal Variety Performance at the London Coliseum.
Davis comments: "Although I had only recently taken delivery of the Vector Green the 2004 Royal Variety Performance was already its fourth show, having worked on Carols from Kings, The Turner Prize and The Dimbleby Lecture the previous week. As is common on larger shows the lighting used for balancing faces was separated from the enormous task of controlling all the different looks required for the Royal Variety, so the Vector took over control of the in-house dimmers at London's Coliseum leaving Nigel Catmur to control the extensive moving light rig. Although that meant accessing over 1000 dimmers and non-dim circuits it hardly stretched the capabilities of the console and I am looking forward to exploring the many features of the Vector for controlling moving lights in the future. The intuitive nature of the console and the ability to be able to configure its behaviour exactly as required, meant that the show ran extremely smoothly, this coupled with the excellent support from Stagetec Distribution led to an extremely stress free experience!"
