Germany - ProLight&Sound 2003: The former Vari-Lite Europe, now known as VLPS Lighting Services Ltd, was promoting its range of services for the first time under its new name, following the sale of Vari-Lite Sales, Manufacturing and Engineering to the Genlyte Thomas Group. Those services include the distribution of Vari-Lite's automated luminaires (including the latest Series 3000 spot and wash fixtures introduced at PLASA last year), plus conventional lighting, control systems, rigging, truss, mains and cable, along with Vari*Imaging, training and CAD/WYSIWYG facilities.

The company reports a busy year in which it has supplied equipment to a string of prestigious events such as the XVII Commonwealth Games, The Queen's Golden Jubilee Celebrations, theatre productions such as Bombay Dreams, Utopia and The Bachai at the Royal National Theatre and, more recently, The Brit Awards 2003.

VLPS Lighting Services continues to distribute VL products throughout Europe, as well as providing a totally integrated lighting and production package to the entertainment industry, including concert touring, theatre productions, corporate events and television. General manager Ed Pagett commented: "This separate branding is important to us, as there is a natural distinction between the sales and rental. We still offer an unequalled rental inventory and are very proud of the services we offer. We believe this division will distinguish the sales products from the rental stock and make clear we not only supply Vari*Lite luminaires, but also the whole rental package. The company name may have changed, but we still have the best team in the industry with over 150 years' collective experience, and that will not change!"
