John O'Neil, of Omagh-based Total Lite and Sound, commented: "The success of Sally's in the FATE Awards acknowledges its position as mid-Ulster's largest and most important entertainment complex. Sally's has a constant mix of live acts and DJ nights - often at the same time - and we had to install sound and lighting systems that would be flexible enough to support its busy programme, reinforce its image and give it the necessary competitive edge. Live music features heavily in Sally's events calendar, and it was essential that the audio installation could handle the range of genres with sufficient quality and clarity, and at the required SPLs.
"I have worked with many sound companies over the years, but Void has certainly proved to be the best at doing something different, doing it well and doing it competitively. The company is easy to deal with, and the guys at Void are always willing pull out the stops to help hit a design spec or a deadline. And you can't argue with the results of the Void systems - Sally's success is proof enough of their validity."
Originally known as Sally O'Briens, Sally's of Omagh underwent a complete multi-million rebuild, with Total Lite & Sound contracted to provide all the audio and lighting systems for the venue, including the external areas. Spread across several levels, Sally's is equipped throughout with Void Acoustics loudspeakers and amplifiers. The front bar, which retains its traditional Irish ambience, features four Mycro 10 speakers systems, plus two Mycro Subs. The ground-floor lounge, which includes a courtyard area, utilises Void's Basys systems, with four Basys B12 mid-highs and four B15 Subs, and with four Mycro 8s providing additional coverage.
Total Lite and Sound installed two Stasys X sub-bass units for the night club area's main dance floor, with six Basys B12s and four Impulse 3i speakers, while the club's second floor also features a Basys system, comprising six B12s and two B15 subs. The DJ booth features Void's Mycro 10 loudspeakers, Pioneer CDJ 1000 Mk3s and an Allen & Heath Xone 6:2 mixer. Completing the audio installation is the VIP suite, equipped with four Mycro 8 systems.
LED-based lighting features heavily in Total Lite and Sound's contract at Sally's, using some 250 AVR AR111 colour changing downlighters. The club areas are installed with Robe moving heads, including four ColourSpot 575 scans and eight ColourSpot 250 scans, as well as a videowall and four mirror-balls, with a further four ColourSpot 250s and four mirror-balls for the dance floor. Control over the lighting is from an Avolite console.
