Lighting designer Duilio Passariello approached this project in 2006 with a brief from the city mayor to transform the site from a dark, uninviting space to one that left visitors with a positive and lasting impression. He turned to Istanbul Telesine and Philips Turkey, who supplied the project with an array of equipment including 165 Martin Exterior 600 outdoor wash lights, 120 Martin Inground uplights, 120 Seasplash LED fixtures for underwater lighting and over 430 ColorBlast LED fixtures accenting the trees surrounding the park.
The fixtures were spread over 12 universes with distances up to 2.2k from the controller, a Martin Maxxyz console. With the large distances between the controller and the fixtures themselves, W-DMX from Wireless Solution was brought into play. Due to the presence of W-LAN used within the park, the site survey team used the W-DMX Co-existance tool to prevent W-DMX from interfering with other users. The built-in software is designed to make this a quick and painless process.
A total of 12 transmitters, fitted with 14dBi antennas were connected to 21 receivers, all with 8dBi antennas. It was important that the equipment could withstand the harsh conditions outdoors in Ankara, with temperatures ranging from -14?C up to 38?C, so the W-DMX IP-65 rated Outdoor BlackBox units were chosen.
Said Ugur Gokcek from Istanbul Telesine: "The system was just so easy to learn and set-up, and once it was connected, even with these huge distances, it never stopped working."
