When it came to choosing the sound reinforcement equipment, the essential criteria were very good sound quality and very good value for money. Clear transmission of the spoken word was also an important feature, as the Siegerlandhalle not only hosts musical events but also conferences, congresses and trade fairs.
The bid-winning design was proposed by the Siegen company Trendco, which also provided and installed the stage mechanics and lighting system. In charge of the project was Jens Schmidt, who drew up the design together with Norbert Sangermann from Camco in Wenden.
"The hall's dimensions were a considerable challenge, with a width of about 45m and a depth of roughly the same again including the gallery. The reverberation times of over two seconds in a potentially half-empty hall also had to be taken into account, as did the acoustic conditions in the foyer, built mainly of glass and granite, and the surrounding walkways. A solution was asked for that would be visually inconspicuous for the visitors, " explained Jens Schmidt.
For the main sound reinforcement system, Trendco has used Nexo's GEO S8 Series. PS10s and PS8, also from Nexo, are used as fills and cover the entire hall.
Nexo's proprietary modelling software GEOSoft 2 simulations showed that, even in the walkways and the foyer, a high level of speech clarity could be achieved through careful positioning of PS8 loudspeakers. Using an appropriate number of these compact cabinets ensures a pleasant and clearly intelligible sound in these areas.
Trendco's Jens Schmidt is very positive about the project support provided by Camco's Norbert Sangermann. "As technical service providers, our experience with Camco sound reinforcement systems has always been very good. The support their staff provide is the perfect supplement to a great range of products. We are very satisfied."
