tsg, the Sheffield-based media programming and systems company has been appointed by W&DB to implement standardized audio and video systems in the majority of the pubs in the programme. Some 60 venues have been converted to the Bostin' Local format to date, with about 40 more earmarked in this W&DB financial year. The roll-out is expected to include about 200 pubs by the end of 2004 - an investment of over £20m.
Every conversion will feature a new sound system, installed by tsg, and comprising Wharfedale Programme 30D loudspeakers with a promedia hard-disk music playing system, Cloud amplification and mixer facilities, and zone control. "The only factor that alters is the number of Wharfedale cabinets," explains Paul Kemp, operations manager of tsg, "depending on the size of the pub. In all other respects, the systems are identical. The Bostin' Local format will account for hundreds of Wharfedale speakers."
The Programme 30D loudspeaker uses Wharfedale's own-design bass unit and fabric dome tweeters to produce tight dynamic bass and a smooth high frequency response, even at high volume levels. A new crossover features TOP (Tweeter Overload Protection) to prevent accidental damage while allowing a full 100W of power handling.
W&DB has seen turnover double in the pubs which have been transformed by the Bostin' Local programme, which aims to attract a wider customer base by offering bright, clean and contemporary pubs with a wider range of attractions, including big-screen TV and all-new music systems.
