"Although the venue is fairly well sound-proofed," he explains, "we do have to give consideration to the neighbouring units in the Centre, one of which is the multiplex cinema. Although we wanted a quality sound system, with a decent output level, we needed loudspeakers with fairly tight focus and dispersion so that our soundtrack didn't spill over into other venues."
Blue Maze sought advice at Sound Control in Manchester, where Phil Stiles recommended Wharfedale EVPS-10 for the job. "Lots of small cabinets rather than a few big ones," says Finnegan. "We knew we could differentiate this particular Laser Quest from the others by prioritizing sound quality, but we still had to work to a tight budget. The speakers promise us a solution that won't disturb the neighbours but will provide high output with low distortion."
The EVPS-10 model features Wharfedale's new WP-M44 compression driver, with a frequency response that extends out beyond 20kHz for a smooth open high end with exceptional output power. Sound Control has supplied a complete package to Blue Maze for Laser Quest, including Wharfedale EVPS-10 loudspeakers, power amps, audio mixer and CD player, plus cabling.
