The Galaxia Softlight generates white light using an LED light source
UK - A powerful and versatile yet lightweight and energy-efficient new tool for those working in lighting for television, film and exhibitions is now available in the UK exclusively from White Light.

The Galaxia Softlight is a flat panel style softlight fixture that generates white light using an LED light source; the fixture has a colour temperature that is variable from 2700K to 6500K with a high colour rendering index of 90-95. The Galaxia is just 40mm thick (94mm including rigging yoke), and is available in two versions - the standard 60x60cmversion and a 'half panel' 60x30cm version. In both cases softlight output is emitted from the fixture's entire front face; beam control accessories such as barn doors are available if required.

The Galaxia can be controlled via DMX512 or using a compact hand-held controller which can be used to set up colour temperature and output level on one fixture and then to copy those settings to other fixtures, removing the need to run cables between fixtures. At maximum output, Galaxia uses just 105W while offering a light output comparable to more power-hungry tungsten or fluorescent studio fixtures. Galaxia will also happily accept input voltages from 90-250V making it easy to use in studios or on locations worldwide, says the company.

"The reaction to the Galaxia from the many lighting professionals in television and film who've seen it has been quite astonishing," comments White Light's sales director Peter Threadgold. "To see it seems to be to love it. We already have a number of people putting Galaxia to use, with others keen to add it to their kit list.It is a great tool - great light output, easy to fit into the tightest of spaces, easy to set up, cool in use and with relatively low power requirements. And, we think, available for a very good price."

Galaxia has already been seen at trade shows such as the Broadcast & Video Expo and PLASA Focus, and will be on show again at the ABTT Show in London in June.
