The third of White Light North's Let's Talk Arts meetings took place recently at the studios of Yorkshire Television in Leeds. Visitors were offered a guided tour of YTV's main and regional studios by Neil Salmon, YTV's resident head of lighting, and also received an insight into the complexities of switching the ITV network between main, regional and even sub-regional areas at YTV's principal transmission control area. More importantly, the visitors also enjoyed the buffet lunch with wine - and the chance to 'talk arts'.

Created by White Light North, Let's Talk Arts is a forum run to allow people working in the arts to get together on the first Thursday of every month for what White Light North's John Anderton describes as "lunch and a good gossip!" The forum is open to anyone influential in the arts in Yorkshire, including theatre managers, directors, technical staff, arts correspondents, television reporters and Regional Arts board members. "There is a host of talent in the North," explains Anderton, "and Let's Talk Arts was conceived as a way of getting people of all disciplines together, to meet, chat and air their views on a range of Arts topics."

The initial meeting included representatives from Opera North, Northern Ballet, Leeds City Varieties, The Little Theatre Guild and elsewhere; the second meeting featured a tour of the Leeds City Varieties Theatre hosted by its manager, Peter Sandeman. Future plans include a look around the work of Opera North at the Leeds Grand theatre.
