The building's spectacular lighting was designed by Future Brand of London and project managed by John Dickaty from the Bahrain office of dwp. Working together with Pulsar's Bahrain representatives Behzad lighting, Future Brand developed a concept for a highly visual, energy efficient LED lighting system that would tally with the vibrant, leading edge image associated with Zain.
Behzad and Pulsar then set to work interpreting the concept into a technical solution that utilised a total of just over 500 items from the ChromaRange family of LED fixtures. All units utilised are rated at IP66, in order to be protected from sand, dust and high humidity, along with an ambient operating temperature rating of +50 degrees centigrade to cope with the extremes of weather found in the region. Installation of the system was performed by local electrical contractor Delta, under the supervision of the Behzad Lighting's project division.
The lighting system operates under the control of ShowCAD Artist 3. To ensure energy efficiency of the programmed schedules, Artist synchronises its timings by use of an astronomical clock function to give daily corrected sunset and sunrise timings. This added to a typical energy consumption of just 4 kilowatts for the entire exterior LED lighting system ensures that Zain's goal for 'green' solutions was achieved.
After final commissioning and programming, Zain's Group networks facilities management director Khalid Pervez commented that "The ChromaRange system has perfectly translated our original vision for the building into a physical reality, thus creating an icon on the landscape fitting for a company with the stature of Zain."
