The new ORB desk from Zero 88.
UK - Zero 88 chose the first morning of PLASA 08 to launch two new products: its new theatre orientated lighting console, ORB and the Jester TL.

Designed to provide innovative control of the latest technologies in lighting including LEDs, Moving Heads and Video Server technology, ORB offers extreme flexibility, four universes and contemporary styling.

Building on the successful platform of the existing Leap Frog and Frog 2 ranges, ORB offers a combination of theatrical control philosophy with an adaptable hardware platform, providing intuitive control of both generics and moving lights.

ORB features 2048 channels which can be controlled over standard DMX universes or via Ethernet. Using a numeric keypad, encoder wheels, palettes and syntax keys, programming on ORB is familiar to both beginners and experienced professionals.

Zero 88 previewed ORB to the UK Theatre market at the ABTT show in June since when it has used the feedback from this show and from users to the implement several new software features.

"I am delighted with the response ORB received at ABTT" explains Zero 88's product manager Peter Kirkup. "We took time at the beginning of the project to capture user requirements, so we had a good idea of what people wanted. Translating these original requirements into a viable, affordable console can be a challenge but its clear we have got it right with ORB."

Jester TL is a theatrical version of Zero 88's popular Jester consoles, bringing the power and flexibility of this range to those operating in theatre environments. The Jester TL offers control of up to 120 dimmer channels from a numeric keypad using standard industry syntax. In common with the other Jester desks, the Jester TL features a cue stack for the play back of memories in a traditional theatrical manner. Submaster playback (via DMX-in) is also supported. As with the other Jester consoles in the range a monitor port is standard together with USB storage and easy patching. Control of up to 30 moving lights is simple using palettes, effects engines and a full fixture library. Its small form factor makes it perfect for venues that were previously limited by space.

With the addition of a dedicated theatrical console the Jester range now represents the most comprehensive range of cost effective lighting controllers in the market, with options for basic 2 preset operation, memory operation, moving lights and now keypad channel control.
