USA - In her young spectacular career, multi-Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles has already worked with an impressive array of superstars, collaborating with the likes of Ahmir 'Questlove' Thompson and Pharrell Williams, and opening for Maroon 5 and Counting Crows. This summer Bareilles harmonised on stage before a national TV audience with another new star that's been garnering a great deal of attention lately, the Nexus 4x4 COB LED panel from Chauvet Professional.

LD Peter Greenbaum (Illumination By Design), the lighting director for the Today Show, used 12 Nexus 4x4 panels to accent Bareilles' dynamic Toyota Concert Series performance on the popular morning programme. Greenbaum lined the upstage area behind the platinum-selling recording star's piano with two banks of three N

China - The global reach of Coda Audio continues to extend, with installers keen to embrace the company's signature audio quality and seamless coverage. Two of the latest installations are in new Chinese theatres.

Built in the form of a pentagon, the striking Huainan Theatre cost $48m US and covers an area of 24,500sq.m. Capable of accommodating up to 1280 people, the building's internal design caused considerable difficulty with designing a PA system that was suitable for the variety of performances and conferences it is required to host.

After lengthy discussions with the theatre's owners, technical installation company Zhejiang Tongbo Electronic Engineering Co Ltd - otherwise known as Tempo - specified a Coda Audio system.

The system is configured as an LCR arrangement and features Coda Rx35 full-range units as the main speakers, with PW418 subs, K5 compact two-way units

Austria - Robe moving lights - 174 in total - were specified by lighting designer Helmut Krammer for the 2014 Summer Night Concert, performed for its eleventh year by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in Schönbrunn Palace, Vienna which provided a sumptuous and beautiful Baroque backdrop to the event.

The venue is a UNESCO World Heritage site and this high profile annual cultural experience was broadcast live by national TV station ORF1 and also beamed around the world on via various satellite channels. It was also live on radio.

Various Robe fixtures were used to light four key areas in the extensive and beautiful gardens - the main stage; the flower beds left and right of this, the Neptunbrunnen Fountains at the back of the stage and the Gloriette structure which is at the top of the hill directly behind the stage location.

It was the fifth year that Vienna based Krammer h

Burundi - Christ for All Nations (CfaN) recently debuted its new Meyer Sound Leo linear large-scale sound reinforcement system at a four-day gospel crusade on the outskirts of Bujumbura, Burundi. Set up in an open field without delay towers, the Leo system performed flawlessly for the musical and speech programmes in front of 200,000 visitors, and replaces CfaN's Meyer Sound MSL-3A conventionally powered loudspeaker system that has served the ministry for 26 years.

Unassisted by giant video screens, lighting effects, or pyrotechnics, CfaN events rely heavily on exceptional audio reinforcement. "Clarity of speech is our primary concern at these events," says Derek Murray, head of sound operations for the ministry. "The Leo system is able to cover very large areas with high intelligibility, as proven by positive reports from the perimeter of the field."

UK - Fresh off the Franz Ferdinand tour, monitor engineer, Tom Howat, took the same iLive modular set up of an iLive-112 Surface and iDR10 MixRack with additional PL10 remote controller on a short UK tour with Paolo Nutini.

Beginning with a set at Radio 1's Big Weekend festival and culminating in a performance at London's Roundhouse, audio production for the tour was managed by Britannia Row. Paolo was on four d&b M2 wedges run as a stereo mix, there was a guitar player on two M2 wedges, and then nine other musicians all on in-ears, plus Tom's PFL wedges, run "a little unusually" in stereo.

"It was very interesting to mix a different act on the same iLive system. Having spent many years working with Paolo this was an excellent opportunity to properly compare the iLive to past experiences. I ended up with only half a dozen unused input channels and because of the

"Our previous system was 17 to 18 years old, and it was designed for our needs at that time," says Mike Jones, who oversees worship production for the church. "We wanted a system that sounded better and had better coverage. Also, we wanted a system that had the capability to handle everything we've been working into the worship service."

Italy - A workshop and selections for a lighting contest for budding lighting designers were held on 7 and 8 July at Clay Paky. Those chosen will perform their shows during Tones on the Stones, the well-known theatre and music festival that takes place in the marble and granite quarries of Val d'Ossola from 17 to 20 July.

The Tones on the Stones production team brought a well-trained group of thirty-five candidate lighting designers, of which only six passed the selections and secured a place at the final evening. Among those present and the members of the jury were the well-known lighting designer Giancarlo Toscani, the Tones on the Stones lighting designer Nevio Cavina, the event organization manager Tobia Piazza and Clay Paky's lighting designer Marco Zucchinali.

The two days at Clay Paky were very busy and were marked by a course for the budding lighting designers on contr

UK - The 32nd Henley Festival proved to be a logistical triumph for the event's long term PA contractors, RG Jones Sound Engineering, and a sonic one for the Martin Audio system they were deploying for the first time at the event: the MLA Compact.

On the upside, the organisers had overturned the decision to relocate from the wonderful site on the banks of the Thames that has been their permanent home for three decades - meaning that RG Jones could call on pre-existing site data; on the more arduous side, their Martin Audio MLX subs had just returned from the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival and gone straight on to a Tour de France event in Trafalgar Square.

The theatrics of Arcade Fire at Glastonbury had filled the grilles with pyrotechnic residue, necessitating the grilles of the subwoofers to be resprayed. Given the tight turnaround time between Trafalgar Square and the

UK - CBeebies TV show Swashbuckle is back for a new series. The idea is for the audience to join Gem and her teams of Swashbucklers as they try to win her jewels back from the naughty pirates - Captain Cook, Line and Sinker.

This bright and colourful set, which includes it's very own pirate ship (and real life parrot), is seriously big budget!

UK - Chilfest 2014 - the three day music extravaganza staged in the picturesque Hertfordshire, UK countryside, and produced by leading production industry technical solution specialist Universal Event Productions (UEP) - was another resounding success.

Company founder Steve Butcher maintains a cutting edge inventory of lighting, sound and video equipment, which he showcases at this event, and several months ago he invested substantially in SGM's SP-6 SixPack pixel blinders, XC-5 RGB colour strobes and P-5 wash lights. These were deployed in production lighting designer Simon Maddison's imaginative concept, along with four of SGM's award-winning high powered G-Spot profiles.

The latter were placed on the PA wings either side of stage to boost low level front lighting across the crowd - which also served as a great atmosphere builder. As one of the most exposed fixtures, its IP6

Eight projection screens measuring 6.5m each and 130 flat panel displays were installed in the auditorium, green room and off-stage areas, to ensure waiting contestants and the audience didn't miss a single note or vote from the show.

Audio-visual solution specialists, AV Center, were given the task of creating the innovative display set-up for the event, won this year by Conchita Wurst.

Mikkel Behrend, rental manager at AV Center, said, "In close collaboration with Panasonic, we managed to meet the organiser's high expectations by providing a reliable, state-of-the-art technology solution at an extremely competitive cost. We hope to work with Panasonic again when delivering such visual solutions for large-scale events."
