UK - The National Youth Theatre raised £350,000 during a fundraising gala dinner, with support from production experts Light Fantastic Production Services.
The event, called Nostalgic Fantastic, was a fundraiser for the charity as well as a grand reveal of the newly renovated National Youth Theatre building. As such, the NYT team recognised that technical production was going to be key to showcasing both their cultural value and readiness to welcome the next generation of theatre talent.

France - Twelve APG MC2C compact satellite loudspeakers are providing maximum intelligibility in the humid and challenging environment of the busy Centre aquatique Auréo in Bayeux.
Opened in 2019, Auréo is an aquatic centre combining multiple swimming pools with a 515sq.m ‘wellness area’ featuring saunas, a jacuzzi, a salt cave and a balneotherapy pool. The 2,300m², €12.6m complex is the only municipal swimming pool serving the nearly 15,000 residents of the district after the previous piscine de Bayeux closed a year earlier.

World - Japanese transducer manufacturer Audio-Technica will mark its 60th anniversary this year with a series of events that will celebrate A-T’s commitment to analogue sound.
Company founder Hideo Matsushita developed the first AT-1 cartridge on 17 April 1962 with the aim to bring the warmth of analogue listening to a wider audience. He was inspired by the depth of emotion he witnessed at vinyl listening sessions organised during his tenure at the Bridgestone Museum of Arts in Tokyo.
The success of the AT-1 and the AT-3 enabled him to expand the business, opening an HQ in Machida, where the company continues to operate today.

Mandela Musical - A new musical about Nelson Mandela has been announced as part of the Young Vic’s summer to autumn season. The London theatre has also announced a series of events called Taking Part 25 in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the theatre’s engagement programme.
Mandela, which tells the story of the South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, will run from 28 November to 4 February. It has a book by Laiona Michelle, music and lyrics by Greg Dean Borowsky and Shaun Borowsky, and is directed by Schele Williams with choreography by Gregory Maqoma. The musical has been developed in partnership with Nandi Mandela, Luvuyo Madasa and the Mandela family.

USA - Eastern Acoustic Works (EAW) has announced the addition of Richard Muggle to the position of service and support manager. In his new role, Muggle will oversee and manage the department to ensure customer satisfaction.
“As EAW continues to enhance its customers’ experiences, we are pleased to welcome Richard into the EAW family,” says T.J. USA - Powersoft has welcomed three new employees to its US office in Flanders, New Jersey.
Peter Robinson – whose industry experience includes more than 25 years as a system integrator and speaker designer – joins Powersoft as consultant liaison with immediate effect. Providing oversight and management for large scale projects, Robinson will also assist consultants, architects, engineers and end-users, coordinating the efforts of Powersoft’s solutions engineering team.
Evelyn Caruso joins as inside sales coordinator in the United States, bringing over 20 years of experience in industrial sales support, distribution and manufacturing to the newly created position. Caruso will be responsible for the coordination and execution of sales and customer support, as well as assisting the US sales team with forecasting reports.

UK - In preparation for the upcoming summer season, Adlib has increased its rental inventory of Harman's JBL Professional VTX A Series line array system, with an additional investment in more VTX A12 line array elements, together with B28 subwoofers and Crown V-Rack power. All have been supplied by Harman’s UK distributor, Sound Technology.
Specifically, an additional 16 x VTX A12 dual 12” line array elements takes Adlib's A12 inventory to 64 boxes, with 24 of the new B28 dual 18” subs. The investment also includes additional Crown VRacks comprising Crown iTechHD 3x3500HD power amplifiers.

Spain - Barcelona’s fringe theatre Teatre Akadèmia has recently completed a multimedia upgrade to enhance the venue’s technical production capabilities.
Alongside new video and lighting systems, a comprehensive Amate Audio sound installation - comprising loudspeakers, power amplifiers and digital audio processors from the company - has provided the venue with both a new FOH PA and surround sound EFX capabilities.

Japan - The city of Fukuoka stands on the shores of Hakata Bay, has been a centre of international commerce since ancient times and is the country’s sixth-largest city and second-largest port after Yokohama.
The city hosts the 52,000 capacity Fukuoka PayPay Dome, the first multi-purpose dome in Japan to incorporate a retractable roof and, when built, its 216m diameter made it the largest indoor stadium and the largest geodesic dome. At a length of 188m, the venue also has the world’s longest bar from which spectators can see the entire field.
As well as baseball (the Dome is home to the SoftBank Hawks), other key sports events are staged regularly, and concerts have included artists of the calibre of Michael Jackson, who performed on four occasions there to huge crowds, Whitney Houston, Madonna, The Rolling Stones and Bon Jovi.

UK - Digital specialist Stabal Media has launched a new film recording studio and performance venue in London that the company says is carbon neutral.
The Stabal Studio is based in converted 250 year-old barns that have been re-purposed with music and sustainability in mind, reusing all of the original building material and structure in the process.
Eco-friendly strategies help the studios to be carbon neutral. The heating system works sustainably with geothermal energy and electricity which is generated by ground and air source heat. Productions being made in the studio complex are adopting the concept of sustainability. Stabal Studio has invested in its own kitchen garden and offers carbon calculator reports for all recordings and events.

Germany - HOF will launch its new Post Dolly at Prolight+Sound 2022. The Post Dolly offers a variety of possibilities to create different structures and layouts on stage. It can be used for single lamps, but also as a stacked dolly with, for example, 1m standard conical tubes between the dollies to create different levels.
The components can be mounted standing or hanging on the 15mm plate. Further, the user can mount 2-point, 3-point or 4-point trusses in sizes 290mm or 400mm on the dolly in different positions, using the optional adapter plate.
Likewise, the MLT trusses can be positioned upright in centre or off-centre positions. Multiple Post dollies can be combined to create various constructions. The components remain in place during the show and during transport, saving a lot of time. The wheels are black & grey and therefore almost invisible on stage.

Germany - AV Stumpfl will present its new projection screen system, AnyShape, and the new Pixera four media server at Prolight+Sound 2022 in Frankfurt.
AnyShape allows for the custom production of mobile projection screens with non-standard frame shapes such as circles, rounded edges and semi-circles.
AV Stumpfl’s global business development manager for screens, Jan Walter, explains, “Until now, if one wanted to only use a particular part of a rectangular projection screen’s surface, some kind of masking approach was needed to create the shape one had in mind. AnyShape now offers an ingenious way of ordering a custom-built projection screen with a great variety of different frame shapes, straight from the factory.”
