USA - Celebrating Scandinavian rock music, fans across the USA enjoyed a recent high-powered double headliner tour delivered by Ghost from Sweden and Volbeat from Denmark.
This tour also united the imaginations of two different international lighting designers - Niels ‘Niller’ Bjerregaard for Volbeat who is based in Denmark and Erich Bertti from Brazil, LD for Ghost - who combined creativity and lateral thinking to design a top rig that would work for both bands but yield totally contrasting results.

USA - Evanescence have just wrapped up a US tour supporting The Bitter Truth, the band’s first new album of original material in a decade.
For the outing, Solotech, Evanescence’s sound reinforcement provider since 2017’s Synthesis tour, carried an L-Acoustics K2 loudspeaker system.
“Amy Lee is an incredible singer, songwriter, and storyteller, so ensuring the emotional connection between the stage and audience is of utmost importance, and K2 definitely gives us that,” shares Eddie Mapp, Evanescence’s front-of-house engineer since May of 2003, when the band’s career skyrocketed with the debut of Fallen. “Although the original specification for this run called for K1, production chose to use K2 as it provided a more compact truck pack while still giving us terrific vocal intelligibility, tonality, and precise control.”

USA - Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) has acquired and installed a pair of DiGiCo S21 audio mixing consoles.
With consulting and purchase provided by Second City Sound & Communications and integrated by SCS’s Gerry Formicola and Brad Galvin working with the MCA production team, the S21s now reside in the museum’s Edlis Neeson Theatre. The desks are each paired with a DMI-Dante card for networking, plus three DiGiCo A168 stage boxes also connected via Dante.
One console now serves as the front-of-house desk for the Neeson Theatre and is further fitted with a DMI-AMM (Automatic Mic Mixing) card. The second console is situated in the theatre’s audio/video control room where it’s used to mix streams of the events and presentations originating in the venue, and can also be called upon for monitor-mixing work when needed.

Titled Matrubhumi or Motherland in Hindi, the 30-minute visual spectacle made its debut on 25 March as one of the major highlights of the Red Fort Festival, which showcases India’s rich history and a kaleidoscopic diversity in art, heritage and culture.

UK - Sam Healey, formerly of PRG, has joined television lighting specialists Version 2 as lighting gaffer, bringing extensive knowledge of the entertainment and events industry built up over 24 years.
Healey’s father Mick Healey, retired account director at PRG UK, introduced Healey to the industry back in 1999. Starting in cables at Vari-Lite, Sam worked his way round the departments from lanterns and follow spots to moving lights and rigging and in the early days would take his holidays and weekends to go out on site.
When PRG acquired Vari-Lite, Healey became full time crew member as events co-ordinator touring extensively and has enjoyed working on countless rock and roll gigs over the years, notably the Led Zeppelin 2007 gig at the O2 Arena, and more recently as event manager on TV productions and red-carpet events.

UK - The O2 Arena in London witnessed its largest audience at a single sporting event in history when hosting the UFC Fight Night on 19 March.
TSL were back at the O2 to put together an impressive rig with lighting over centre stage. The main component of the lighting system - Tungsten 6 Lamp Bars of Source 4 Pars evenly lit up the Octagon suitably.
It had been three years since UFC had returned to the O2 and as with any event it was imperative that everything ran like clockwork. Dom Sheerman, account director for TSL says, “Having been a regular event in the calendar it was great to be delivering a UFC show again, the last show previous to this was at the end of 2019 in Moscow so it’s been a long break.”

USA - Tenth Planet Productions, production designer John Calkins, Bianca Moncada and the team at screen content creator Darmah, and lighting designer Allen Branton supported the performances at the 2022 iHeart Radio Music Awards.
For his part, Branton relied on light from his 4Wall Entertainment supplied rig, which included over 70 Chauvet Professional fixtures, to enhance the “virtual stage” environment created through the video and scenic design.
“This show was the result of an interesting collaboration between lighting and scenic design, along with the screen content creations by Darmah,” says Branton. “The design team essentially built the show around a virtual environment. Creatively arranging video tiles, the team created a virtual proscenium on the venue’s actual stage, with lighting working inside it.”

The company is seeing a demand for various Robe products, reports business development director Rael Hancock, who joined the company September 2019.

USA - Broadcast live for the first time ever from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the 64th Grammy Awards featured artist performances supported by the sound of Shure wireless audio technology.
