UK - Artistic Licence has announced the reinvention of Micro-Scope, the DMX tester first launched in the 1990s and a common sight in many toolcases today. Most significantly, the new version - Micro-Scope 3c - supports RDM, hugely increasing its functionality. For all those who already own a Micro-Scope, you can buy a kit containing a replacement chip for your old device which will bring it up to the 3c specification.
Artistic Licence inventor/owner, Wayne Howell brings the story up to date. “It was 1992. The Internet was a scientist’s plaything, email was a curiosity, mobile phones were the size of a bus and the fax machine was the latest must-have gadget. But DMX512 was starting to catch on.
“I’d recently started Artistic Licence and I didn’t have a DMX tester. In fact, I didn’t know anyone who had a DMX tester. It seemed likely there would be a market f

USA - Basesix Systems outfitted the recently opened Bellyard Hotel with JBL Professional loudspeakers and AMX networked AV systems to deliver quality sound and video content via an easy-to-use system.
Located in Atlanta’s historic West Midtown stockyards, the Bellyard Hotel by Marriott is the cornerstone of The Interlock, the city’s newest destination for high-end shopping and culture. During construction, the hotel’s leadership required guidance regarding the most suitable AV systems in the lobby, bar, conference rooms and outdoor section. To meet the hotel’s modern design and commitment to quality, Basesix Systems installed solutions by JBL Professional and AMX.
“The design was probably 80% complete, but there were several question marks,” said Dan Ford, systems director of AV, Basesix Systems. “The consultants looked for our guidance to fill in the bl

South Africa - Prosound has been helping South Africa’s live music industry get back on its feet after the COVID lockdowns by supporting up and coming artists return to the stage. The latest example of this came with Julanie J’s four date tour of the Western Cape where Prosound was the PA sponsor.
To support the tour, Prosound provided Stage-Tech managing director JP Chetty with a Meyer Sound solution that would have the versatility to cover the four different venues while also being robust enough to handle four back-to-back performances.
“Not a lot of people in South Africa tour with Meyer, but it is robust, I know first-hand that this PA does really well on tour,” explains JP, who served as audio and tech engineer for the tour. “We took the PA out and did four shows in four days and there was not a single issue with it. We worked very different venues from

USA - Understanding that sound is the main motivator of any club, Photo City Music Hall looked to local power amp specialist Ashly Audio to provide a powerful, flexible solution to the venue’s needs. After ‘an overwhelmingly positive response’ to the recent installation of Ashly Audio’s amplifiers, Photo City Music Hall is ready to host larger, and louder, shows.
What began as a small venue has grown to be a Rochester staple. Photo City Music Hall originally opened in 2016 with owner Daniel Nielsen living in the green room for the first year and a half while growing the space. In the beginning most of the shows were punk or metal bands as well as comedy and burlesque shows.
However, during COVID, the venue rebranded and increased capacity to 500. This allowed them to focus more on music with 95% of shows being music related and EDM being a more popular genre.

Poland - A multi-functional building combining office and cultural spaces, Poland’s newly-constructed Cavatina Hall opened its doors at the start of this year. It is the only privately owned and funded concert hall in the country and its owners’ uncompromising approach to design demonstrates their ambition for the venue to become a landmark on Europe’s cultural map.
The six-storey multifunctional building counts over 9,000sq.m of A-class office space, a chamber music hall, and a recording studio. But the crown jewel of the building is the 1,000-capacity concert hall which boasts a stage with AV technology integrated into an extensive digital and analogue network, and L-Acoustics’ progressive L-ISA Immersive Hyperreal sound technology, delivered by Warsaw-based L-Acoustics certified provider distributor, Audio Plus.
The venue was created by Cavatina Holding, of

The Netherlands - Just prior to lockdown, lighting designer Erwin Van Lokeren was beginning work on an upcoming tour by his long-time client, Dutch rock stars Racoon. With the world of touring turned away from him, Van Lokeren had time to think about design and what he sees as one of its core meanings, how to reflect his clients’ music. It was, he now says, a time to allow “creativity to run free and build up”.
This April, the result of this creative incubation was revealed during Racoon’s arena show at Rotterdam Ahoy, as Van Lokeren and his co-designer/systems tech Bert Ploegh transformed the stage with an evocative, mesmerising lightshow created with the help of Chauvet Professional Maverick, STRIKE and Epix fixtures supplied by Splendit.
“For this show because of the Covid, we had a lot of time to create and try new things,” says Van Lokeren. “There

Six by nine was called on to light the new stage, a role that included the entire technical installation including engineering and other technical elements, as well as show execution and maintenance.
A flexible lighting system was required that could cover a varie

Indonesia - Since opening in late-February, luxury supper club Black Owl has taken PIK Golf Island in Northern Jakarta by storm with its high-end dining and entertainment experience. After a break of two years, the Frankfurt event brought together companies and professionals from all segments of the industry. Wolfgang Marzin, president and chief executive officer of Messe Frankfurt, reflects: “By all pulling together, we have achieved something that, at the beginning of the year, many people thought would be impossible: the companies and associations of the event and media technology sector joined forces with us to show once again how much life and positive energy is to be found in this industry.”
“We are delighted we have succeeded with Prolight + Sound in triggering this important restart and that we can once again all come together with no restrictions. Both exhibitors and visitors were hungry for spontaneous meetings,” adds Linda Res

Europe - Austrian Audio and UK distributor Sound Technology have introduced two new microphones, optimised for use on instruments: the OD5, an active-dynamic microphone, and the OC7, a true condenser microphone.
Both mics are handmade in Vienna and subjected to the strictest quality assurance processes. The OC7 features the OCC7 small diaphragm capsule, also handmade in Vienna.
Most noticeable feature is the ‘swivel joint’ mechanism. Musicians and sound techs are familiar with the problem of microphone stands that are screwed on too tightly and can hardly be reached in the forest of stands on stage. Once you finally get them loose, they lose their position completely - making fine adjustments to microphone angles by a few degrees difficult.
Austrian Audio's engineers have developed a swivel system for the microphone basket that allows a 220° rotation of the

USA - When he set about designing a light show, for regional Mexican trio Marca MP’s recent California tour, SoCal-based LD Gus Martinez began envisioning how his favourite colour combinations would play off against the band’s blend of banda, mariachi, and ranchera music. He also pictured in his mind, a scene for the artists’ entrance on the stage.
The way Martinez envisioned it, the band would emerge from an elevator, flanked by runaway lights, while a variety of spots and washes illuminated the crowd, creating instant contact with their famously loyal fans.
Happily, that’s precisely as it played out at large venues like Ontario’s Toyota Arena, filling Martinez with an indescribable feeling.
“One of my favourite looks was the entrance,” said Martinez. “I imagined this moment throughout the entire time I was designing the show. Seeing it come to l

Combined with a playful aesthetic, a determinedly sustainable ethic and some excellent food and drink options, Treehouse London offers one of the capital’s most surprising and joyful hospitality experiences.

USA - Meyer Sound has redoubled its long-standing corporate commitment to green touring with the introduction of the Panther large-format linear line array loudspeaker.
Panther has been designed for a reduced carbon footprint in manufacturing, transport, and operation, says the company, adding that its commitment to sustainability will be reflected in all future product development, campus facilities, technical support initiatives, and education programmes.
The design criteria for Panther required a substantial reduction in size and weight compared to prior generations of line array loudspeakers, as well as at least a 20% reduction in power consumption to achieve the same acoustic output. The result is a system with a peak acoustic output exceeding 150dB SPL and weighing under 68kg, retaining the same slender width of the Lyon linear line array loudspeaker but with nea
