Adlib - based in Liverpool, where football is religion - emulated their home turf by fielding two teams - FC Adlib, captained by Dave Jones, and Adlib FC, led by Jean Luc Picard. A team from Lite Alternative had to pull out at the last minute - vicious rumours were circulating that this was to save themselves the embarrassment of the token lampies near certain collection of the Plastic Spoon fifth place prize!
The competition was run, league style, with the top point earners playing each other in the Championship Final, and teams 3 and 4 playing off to avoid the Wooden Spoon. With so much talent on the pitch, the league was a close-run thing, with FC Adlib and SSE making the Final.
A spectacular hat-trick by Mark Roberts ensured FC Adlib grasped the title in a knife-edge 5-3 result. "The Brummies played hard, they were certainly tough opponents," said Roberts after the game, "but our teamwork, stomachs and proactive striking skills eventually paid off."
Despite the action-packed day, only one injury was sustained - a broken heart by SSE's Spencer Beard. Adlib FC thrashed KFC Wigwam into fourth place, but the Lancashire lads accepted their spoon with dignity and maturity. That evening, in true Cup Winners style, all teams enjoyed a lavish party night at Liverpool's latest venue - Prohibition, also organized by Adlib.
