ARB’s project co-ordinator Gaynor Molyneux managed the team on site throughout the event. As part of the company’s overall remit, ARB was the key temporary power supplier to the Epsom racecourse, with 16 generators on site for the Derby ranging from 30 to 320Kva, utilizing three miles of distribution cables and distro boxes all installed by specialist engineers to ensure the safe distribution of electricity. The company’s generators powered various hospitality areas including the Vodafone and Classic Marquees.
With thousands of people working on the racecourse, co-ordinating the behind the scenes production was also facilitated by ARB, who supplied the two-way radios for the production staff to use on site. Communicating with the vast Derby crowd was also vital, so ARB supplied several PA systems. An ‘At the Races Derby Radio’ event radio station was generated from an ARB specialist radio transmission station, and was broadcast through the PA as well as being available for race goers to tune into.
21 ARB plasma screens were placed in the hospitality areas, including the Vodafone corporate hospitality marquee. For this area ARB also provided lighting in the form of red decorative uplighters (in keeping with the sponsor’s corporate colours) and 36 12-arm chandeliers. The De Boer marquee was host to a formal lunch on both days as well as race viewing from a balcony area for the guests. ARB provided a number of systems for the structure, including air-conditioning units, a PA system and fire safety equipment. ARB also provided three large outdoor screens at the racecourse carrying the live action and betting odds to the race fans.
