Sound design for the UK national tour of Cats is by Terry Jardine and Simon Baker, with Greg Pink as production sound engineer. The tour is scheduled to run for the next few years visiting Manchester, Wolverhampton, Sunderland, Edinburgh and Belfast. Jardine, Autograph's managing director, commented on the choice of the R-Type for this project: "We are pleased to add the R-Type to our expansive Cadac inventory, we needed a desk with a smaller footprint, but with all the qualities Cadac usually delivers and this desk fits that description perfectly. It really comes into its own when you look at the requirements and demands of a touring system."
The R-Type is contained within an easily re-configurable package, providing comprehensive facilities for both FOH and monitor mixing. It gives rental companies a highly flexible console - using Cadac's unique 'plug-anywhere' modules for fast installation. It features a new lightweight monocoque design and a slimmer module width - its resilient yet lightweight frame is designed for a two-man lift, and a single 24-slot frame can be configured to handle a small venue or gig easily - with larger consoles being assembled out of multiples of the 24-way frame, up to any size required. Cadac's Sound Automation Manager (SAM) for Windows provides automation functionality for use with Cadac consoles, integrating the full Windows operating system in an intuitive software release.
