"The old desk had become unreliable with the usual wear and tear issues so the options were replacement or repair. In view of the high priority of live music at The Horn, the purchase of a new desk was approved," explains The Horn's resident sound engineer, Graham Stevenson. "The GL2400 was chosen from a shortlist on account of its value for money, build quality and 'rider-friendliness'. Initial comments from the sound engineers have been very favourable, and I'm certainly well pleased with it."
The Horn's audio refurbishment began last year with the installation of a new amp rack in a secure and properly ventilated location at the rear of the premises, much rewiring of the tie lines, speaker cables and multicores, and the fitting of a new stage.
A wide mix of acts perform at the venue, from local bands and DJs through to 'breaking' bands, covers bands and established 'talent'. Independent promoters occasionally present their acts at The Horn and there is a semi-acoustic night on Sundays when many local musicians perform.
"Hosting live music is clearly an advantage to any pub that takes it seriously and does it well. The Horn specifically has a well established association with live music, and I can recall going there in the 70s to see live bands but it has never previously been such a well-equipped dedicated music venue until now!" concludes Stevenson.
