UK - Black Light has announced the launch of a new course for professional

technicians working in the theatrical or events industries. The course, Rigging and Working at Height in the Entertainment Industry, is designed to provide the knowledge and practical guidance needed to work safely when rigging equipment high above a stage or auditorium.

Over three days, course attendees will learn from industry professionals and trained instructors on all aspects of safe working at height. Classroom-based theory, hands-on practical sessions and discussion groups are all part of the package which is aimed at keeping everyone involved and active throughout.

"Falls from height continue to be one of the biggest causes of workplace injury and death. Theatres and stages can be particularly hazardous places to work," says Black Light's technical manager Craig Collin. "Through our structured training schemes, Black Light wants to make the Entertainment Industry and its staff as safe and efficient as possible. We will be giving technicians the skills and knowledge they need to protect themselves, work effectively and keep everyone safe. There can never be too much emphasis placed on training and development."

The Course is divided into three main modules: Entertainment Rigging, Work at Height and Rescues. Amongst the topics it covers are: Legislation, safe working practices, rigging equipment and methods, knots and working tips, risk assessment, emergency planning and rescue systems and principles. A significant part of the total course is dedicated to physical, hands-on scenarios with particular focus on rescue techniques. Everyone on the course will be working at height and everyone on the course will rescue a casualty at least once during the three days.

Course dates now available for booking are: 6 - 8 October 2010 and 19 - 21 January 2011.
