Europe - Known for his boundary-crossing repertoire that includes classical arrangements of rock, pop, and punk music, violinist David Garrett recently performed a series of open-air shows across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. German production service provider POOLgroup deployed a Meyer Sound Leo linear large-scale sound reinforcement system for the tour.

Kai Ulrich, FOH engineer for Garrett, was first attracted to Leo's headroom, which would allow him to eliminate delay loudspeakers for many shows.

"Everything sounds so effortless with LEO," says Ulrich. "You can really feel the headroom, even though the David Garrett show is not very loud. The first time I used the system I was actually completely overwhelmed by the sound, and I am not at all 'brand religious'."

David Garrett's touring Leo system featured up to 12 Leo-M line array loudspeakers per

Slot has been on tour with D-A-D for most of this year, taking in countries such as China and the US as well as plenty of places in Europe.

To mic drummer Laust Sonne's snare drum, Slot uses a combination of a DPA d:dicate 2011C Twin Diaphragm Cardioid Microphones and DPA d:vote 4099 Instrument Microphones, with the former positioned above the snare and the latter below. The d:votes are also used to mike the toms, high hat and cymbals, with reinforcement provided by a DPA d:dicate 4011 Compact Cardioid Microphone positioned underneath the cymbals. UK - A fundraising event in support of the restoration of the Grade II listed Unity Hall in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, helped the project pass the £100,000 investment mark, taking it further towards its target of £150,000, which is needed to buy all the audio and lighting equipment for the venue.

The event, held on 11 July at The New Inn pub in Walton, raised £3,000 towards the restoration and saw LS-Live and Backstage Academy's Adrian Brooks present a cheque for their £5,000 donation.

Said Unity Hall director Chris Hill, "The fantastic lift that Unity Hall will give to the centre of Wakefield, turning Westgate away from a heavy drinking street to a place everyone can go to enjoy themselves with galleries, cafés and retail, will make that whole area the cultural heart of a new university city.

Serbia - Making its stylish debut this summer was Serbia's latest nightlife spot, Hot Mess, in the capital of Belgrade. Hot Mess opened its doors in July to a crowd of beautiful party people, with a high powered Nexo system keeping the sounds going throughout the day and night.

The 400-capacity club is based around an open-air pool complete with swim-up bar, sun loungers and seating areas. Operating as a restaurant during the day, by nightfall the volume and pace are turned up as Hot Mess moves into club mode, with poolside dancing and drinking providing entertainment into the small hours.

The Nexo system was provided by local distributor Light and Sound Design, who designed and installed a system of six PS10-R2 high power cabinets and four LS600 sub bass units driven by NXAMP 4x4 amplifiers, plus two Yamaha MSR400 active monitors. The PS10-R2s have been positioned around the

USA - Founded in 1850 by German immigrants, St. Joseph Fullerton is a Roman Catholic church located just north of Baltimore in Perry Hall, Maryland, USA. St. Joseph's current building, an octagonal structure with around-the-sanctuary seating, and imaginative décor has impressed parishioners and visitors for more than 40 years.

St. Joseph's original sound system used ceiling loudspeakers to cover the sanctuary and had been augmented with loudspeakers in the organ chamber. However, coverage was uneven in many locations and very poor in the back of the church.

Through a referral from another church, St. Joseph's contacted Mike Flaherty of Nelson White Systems in Baltimore. Flaherty recommended a system based on Community's Entasys column line arrays. He had used Entasys in other church sound systems and knew they would provide smooth coverage throughout the sanctuary and p

The ESB and Macy's partnered on the 37th annual fireworks show. For the Independence Day spectacular the light show competed for attention with the fireworks by displaying dramatic and fun bursts of colour, ripples, sweeps and chases on the top tiers and spire of the ESB. More than 3.900 LE

UK - The Roland R-1000 48 track audio recorder/player has been out on tour with James recently, used by system engineer Mark O'Neill from AudioPlus to record their live performances. The UK tour, which took place earlier this year covered 11 dates in venues of varying sizes, from arenas to academies.

To make the recordings, the inputs from a DiGiCo SD8 desk were fed into a Roland S-MADI REAC Bridge which converted the signal from MADI to REAC (Roland Ethernet Audio Connection) to go into the R-1000. The S-MADI REAC Bridge is a bi-directional signal converter between REAC and MADI enabling connectivity between MADI-equipped digital audio mixers/systems to any REAC-based devices. A Roland S-4000 chassis was custom loaded with SO-DA4 output cards and used as an output device from the R-1000 via REAC to break the signal into analogue lines to feed into the Midas XL4 desk in use at F

Thanks to its flexibility, Focusrite's RedNet technology is being implemented in an amazingly diverse range of applications. From single-unit laptop recording setups to multi-room studio environments, RedNet is a great-sounding, hassle-free and incredibly versatile audio interface system. One of the most innovative RedNet applications is as part of the digital audio systems that run most front-of-house (FOH) PA systems on large tours the world over. One such implementation is in the FOH rig of The Killers' world tour, where a RedNet 1 eight-channel A-D/D-A and RedNet 4 eight-channel mic preamp perform a number of duties for Systems Engineer Philip Reynolds. He made the decision to use RedNet in order to maintain the audio within the digital domain - A-D conversion takes place side-stage as soon as the mics plug into the stagebox - for as long as possible before conversion to analogue. France - Located in the picturesque Alsace region of France, the Espace Culturel Le Parc in Ribeauvillé is one of the region's primary entertainment centres. A recent technical upgrade has seen an all-digital Yamaha and Nexo audio installation deliver a dramatic improvement to the venue's sound quality and flexibility.

Built in 1997 and run by the local municipality, the 580-seat venue hosts mainly live music and theatre, but also presentations and conferences. After 17 years of near-constant use the audio system needed a significant upgrade because cables, connectors and other components required replacing, plus the PA was no longer sufficient to meet the demands of contemporary shows.

Supplied by French audio specialists Lagoona, the new PA system comprises flown arrays of Nexo Geo S12 and S1230 loudspeakers, plus ground-stacked RS18 subs and PS10 R2 front-fills. The
