90 Degrees is located in a cavernous old building above a wine warehouse and consists of several rooms, including a main DJ/dance area, a secondary dancefloor and a seated 'booth' area with rounded, cocoon-like seats. From the outset, the club has been designed to be truly multipurpose. The name '90 Degrees' refers to the owners wanting everyone to have a clear view of the performance area in front of the DJ booth: the booth was therefore built at a 90 degree angle to the main dancefloor, with good site-lines for those seated in the booth areas.
Pattenden specified JBL speakers throughout the venue. The main room features JBL MS125S dual 15" bass boxes, picked for price, power and their appropriate size for the room. The top cabinets are four JBL MP212s - a rarer cabinet in installs, but Pattenden knew its 12" and horn combination would work well in the space. The seated booth area features four JBL Control 29s, while there are four Control 28s in the bar.
Into the DJ Booth, CP installed a Citronic CDM10-4 mixer and a Denon twin-CD player. The amp rack contains a Cloud Z8 distribution preamp with remote level controls, driving Dodd graphics and crossovers for the dancefloor. Amplification throughout is RSE. The VIP room features four JBL Control 28 speakers in the bar, and four Control 1s in the seated area, with a remote volume behind the bar. The downstairs bar has JBL Control 13 enclosures, and the new JBL E150 powered sub-bass speakers concealed under the seats.
Pattenden designed and installed a rig to add appropriate visual dynamics to the space. Although a compact space, lighting needed to be flexible, able to deal with anything from dance nights to cabaret and comedy events. The main dancefloor featured four Robe DJ Scans 150s - a small and versatile club favourite; four DJ Roller 150 effects and 2 DJ Spot 160s - all from the Robe XT Series. The secondary dancefloor features two Scan 150s and two Roller 150s, with two Spot 160s to be added soon. All Robe fixtures were supplied direct to CP Sound from Robe UK.
Lighting control is via two Pulsar Outstations - the remote control device for the Masterpiece Replay 216 unit. CP also undertook all the lighting commissioning and programming, completed using a full Masterpiece 216 console, and its Memories then downloaded to the Replay. The DJ has access to 12 buttons to select chases and patterns via the 2 Outstations. The idea is to re-programme regularly to avoid repetition.
