On the White Light booth, i-Pix will be showing their new LED Beamlight, which surprised and delighted many on its first appearance at the PLASA Show in London in September. The fixture offers a new, low-energy alternative to the classic ACL effect, and is described by i-Pix as being "unlike any other LED fixture you have ever seen". The compact fixture is available with RGBW, RGBA, daylight white, UV and other light engines, creating a focusable beam that can be adjusted from+/-35degrees, with the highlight a tight 5 degree beam.

The 2011 Wally Russell Lifetime Achievement Award went to Rusty Brutsché, PRG. The founder of Vari-Lite, Brutsché helped to usher in the modern era of this industry with the invention of the moving light, and many other pace-setting products.

The one-day events were held at the Peter Sarah Theatre in the Performance Academy of Newcastle College, Newcastle Upon Tyne and the newly opened Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in the grounds of Cardiff Castle, where Stage Electrics also recently completed a major sound, production lighting and communications installation in the concert hall and theatre.

The Sharpy won a fourth Rock Our World Award at a reception organized by PLASA in connection with the annual LDI show. The jury, chaired by Mike Wood, gave the Sharpy their enthusiastic backing. The Show's director, Roger Fox, spoke to assure both exhibitors and visitors that the 2012 Show would be going ahead, explaining: "This announcement has come as a surprise to us today and at a time when planning for the 2012 Show was well advanced.
