Explaining the rationale, Dave Beck said: "We specialise in single events for promoters such as Metropolis and SJM - whether it be rock ’n’ roll one-offs or classical spectaculars - as well as corporate shows. We don’t do sufficient arena work to warrant a line array but we wanted a system that was flexible, at the same time offering us the potential to pitch for other work and sub hire. The pricing of the system is also favourable, which means we can invest in sufficient boxes to enable us to do large outdoor classical events."
He added that the company also wanted to make a commitment to a British manufacturer. "We used to operate the old Martin equipment and are familiar with their engineering quality. The bottom end is extremely efficient and I needed something that was flexible from the mid-up. This was the real reason for buying Wavefront and on top of everything else, Martin is a sexy brand."
The company’s pre-existing loudspeaker stock will now be deployed largely on corporate events - which continues to form an essential part of the company’s work portfolio. The new Wavefront stock made an auspicious debut, as FX Music immediately sub-hired 14 WSXs from their new inventory to Capital Sound Hire, for use on the high profile Ministry of Sound New Year’s Eve party at the Millennium Dome.
