UK - Situated at the base of the Lloyd's building and next door to the historic Leadenhall Market, premium wine bar, Corney & Barrow, wanted the optimum in viewing technology for its patrons during the FIFA World Cup. It was perfect territory for the venue's contractors, The Big Picture Company to field their powerful and portable Paradigm Trojan 90.

Packaged in a rugged flight case, the pop-up rear projection display offers optical technology that can be readily transported and set up by unskilled staff inside two minutes. Its full 90" image area (33% larger than 84in plasma) utilises dnp screen technology and is designed to take standard Sanyo and Panasonic projectors. A patch panel enables it to accept all standard input sources (PC, video, audio).

The Trojan series is also 'truck-pack friendly', equipped to be transported by standard high-roof vehicles such as the Mer

Japan - Opened in 1989, Yokohama Arena has quickly become the standard of measure for all Japan's other arenas and convention centres, both in terms of its design and its business model. The arena is constantly booked with trade shows, corporate functions, sporting events, and concerts galore. It's so solidly booked, in fact, that when the old sound system was replaced by a brand new one from Meyer Sound, the installation crew was forced to work around normal arena operations and bookings, and could only remove the old system after the new one was up and completely operational.

Most facilities would close for a job of this nature, however, Yokohama Arena is not a typical arena. Accommodating up to 17,000 people, the arena has played host to such high-profile events as the Pride Fighting Championships and the Rolling Stones on tour. Amenities abound: a projection system with four

UK - Dance4Life is an exciting new global initiative being delivered by SPW in the UK for the first time this year. As the youth arm of the World AIDS Campaign, it seeks to educate, empower and unite young people around the world to tackle HIV/AIDS. Dance4Life aims to provide an opportunity and platform for young people to become more actively involved in tackling HIV/AIDS.

Founded in 2004 in the Netherlands, the project has been highly successful in South Africa, the Netherlands and Indonesia, uniting thousands of young people around the world. The aim is for over 1 million young people from 24 countries to be united within their countries and internationally via live satellite links on World AIDS Day 2012. Through this they will be able to see their power as a united force for change.

The event aims to unite student representatives from 30 schools around the UK at one dance

UK - The historic Coronet Cinema in South London's Elephant and Castle has undergone a multi-million pound refurbishment to create a stunning new live music and club venue. The 2,200 capacity Art Deco building, which began its life as a theatre in the early 19th Century before becoming a cinema in 1910, now houses regular live music gigs and club nights, with a newly-installed EV XLC line-array sound reinforcement system.

The team behind the Coronet re-launch includes Simon Parkes, the man who rescued the derelict Brixton Academy in the 1980s. Unsurprisingly, he has put live music at the core of the Coronet's new business plan, and wants to put the venue firmly on the touring circuit. So far, the club has hosted Franz Ferdinand, The Orb and Macy Gray, and is nurturing a commitment to showcasing new bands and avant-garde events.

UK - Students from Derby University's Events Society launched the university's new bar earlier this year with a weekend of live music. The events society is a student-run technical service with the aim of providing further extra curricular experience for students on live event and other technically-orientated courses at the university.

These came from several manufacturers the main being A.C. Lighting providing Tourwash fixtures and Funktion-One providing there latest RM12 and RM15 monitors for their very first outing. Further equipment was provided by RCH hire to supplement the university's existing stock.

The main sound system comprised two stacks of three Funktion-One 218s and two Resolution 4es with Resolution 2s providing

Germany - Automobile museums are not exactly a recent invention. In contrast to other commodities, the horseless carriage became a cult object and collector's item just a few years after its invention. The new Daimler-Benz Museum in Stuttgart has a more comprehensive exhibition concept. Its ambition is to structure the fascination with Mercedes automobiles under various topics and to establish historical connections. In that context the entanglement of the group during the Nazi-era and World War II is not ignored and even their participation in forced labour is explicitly stated.

The highly polished automobiles from the first motor carriage to the record breaking racing cars and Unimog utility vehicles, remain literally in the spotlights and constitute the visual heart of this collection.

Greece - Designed from the ground up, the new Irida live music venue has opened in time for the summer season in Crete. Located in Peza, 15km outside Heraklion, the club is owned by the company, D. Chatziathanasiou S.A., who will host social and cultural events mixed with live music. The total cost of the project was around € 2,500,000.

The company's Elpi Bofiliaki says: "The project was undertaken through our dealer, Mr Ritsopoulos. He chose Bon Studio because of our all-year-round operation, our excellent reputation and technical expertise, after sales support - and our ability to deliver top quality audio and lighting products, which are exclusively distributed in the Greek market."

USA - It's a long-standing challenge in pretty much every small and mid-sized club the world over - how to get the stage monitors loud enough for the band without blowing them up or creating a feedback howl that will chase the audience out the door.

For the Elbo Room, a popular local club in the city's Mission District, San Francisco Audio's Radley Hirsch came up with a novel approach, suspending three Community R.5HP loudspeakers above the stage to create a stage monitoring design that is as efficient as it is powerful. The R.5HP, a weather-resistant sound reinforcement loudspeaker typically used for music and voice applications in arenas, fairgrounds and other outdoor venues, proved to be an ideal solution on a number of levels.

"It's hard for smaller clubs to budget for stage monitors, and the R.5HP's made perfect sense as a more affordable option," Hirsch explain

UK - London's T Bar now benefits from a new sound system, recently installed by Kelco. The Shoreditch venue had been renting in a Funktion One rig and were so impressed that they decided to buy one. Their enquiries soon led them to Kelco.

Special attention had to be paid to the audio design to achieve the required effect. Jason Bacon of Audio Projects, London undertook the design. Kelco was able to advise on the scheme to meet the client's exacting demands. The system needed to be zoned to feed the venue's four distinct areas, but still have the ability to offer the same music into any or all areas.

The main dance arena required a full on system so the obvious choice was Resolution 4 boxes coupled with F-218 subs. Resolution 1s were specified for the restaurant area and some seating areas, all driven by Full Fat Audio (FFA) amplifiers. This was the first major installation to

UK - A major sound and lighting refurbishment at Butlins holiday resort in Minehead has seen all their premium entertainment venues - the 7,000-capacity Skyline Pavilion, 2600-capacity Centre Stage Theatre and 1500-capacity REDS - all equipped with Martin Audio components.

Between them they host a wide variety of summer entertainment, from children's shows to visits by the Ministry of Sound, and so a versatile, but compact system was required.

Minehead was already operating a Martin Audio W8C system in their Centre Stage Theatre, and that persuaded chief sound engineer Steve Borthwick and technical manager, Dirk Peace, to ask for a further audition.

"We really liked the W8C system in our premium venue, and although we listened other people's kit we wanted to maintain the reliability and sound quality of the W8C." But when Martin's Brad Watson presented the W8LM Min

UK - Meaning the 'great melody of life' or 'big song', Òran Mór is a cultural centre and meeting place in the heart of Glasgow's West End. Formerly Kelvinside Parish Church, the converted building opened in 2004 and now houses two bars, two restaurants, a nightclub and private event space that are now serviced by a Turbosound Aspect loudspeaker system.

When the venue was originally opened, the owners had an open mind as to the kind of events that would be staged. But it quickly became apparent that Òran Mór had a captive market, as the only venue in Glasgow that catered for live gigs of 550-600 audience capacity. In addition, being located in the heart of the city's student population, a combination of live music and club nights swiftly proved extremely popular.

So, in 2006, the venue's technical manager Duncan Taylor was tasked with sourcing an additional PA system which h

USA - High atop New York's Rockefeller Center is a unique, interactive space that takes the capabilities of intelligent LED lighting to new heights. Conceptualized by Electroland of Los Angeles, the 'Target Interactive Breezeway' is an imaginatively lit passage that connects the Center's top-floor observation decks. Its intention is to engage visitors as they pass through by tracing their movement with intelligently controlled light.

According to Electroland partner Damon Seeley: "Color Kinetics' LED-based fixtures were the only technology that could effectively deliver the full RGB spectrum in a small package, while keeping power consumption to a reasonable level. We required a tried and true product with manufacturer support to do the job on a fast-track basis."

The space comprises a glowing ceiling and walls that are entirely lit by LED systems. Approximately 1,30

USA - Miami's Dolphin Stadium is arguably one of professional sport's more active venues. Along with regular season rosters for the Miami Dolphins football and Florida Marlins baseball teams and the annual FedEx Orange Bowl, the stadium has played host to the 1997 and 2003 baseball World Series games, three NFL Super Bowls in 1989, 1995 and 1999 (and is scheduled to welcome the match again in 2007 and 2010), and a wide range of concerts by the likes of U2, Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, the Who, and the Three Tenors. On its off days Dolphin Stadium has also seen countless international soccer matches, Monster Truck shows, RV and boat exhibits, circuses, as well as numerous festivals and trade shows. UK - One of Birmingham's best known nightclubs DV8, has chosen Wharfedale loudspeakers for its new front bar extension, Innov8.

Mark Broadhead, installation manager at local dealers Matthews Electronics, who service many of the local bars, says that the comprehensive Wharfedale range offers so many options, that each venue can have its own tailored Wharfedale-specific sound to reproduce the wide range of background and DJ sound. This was certainly a feature that appealed to DV8 owner, Wayne Toon.

The 900-capacity venue was in a run-down state when he purchased it some four years ago and added it to his 150-strong community pub portfolio in the West Midlands. Recently he decided to commit in the region of £300,000 to developing a bar that would build up the early evening trade.

DV8 itself, which trades with a 6am license, is something of an institution in the city. Whil
