Lighting artist Jürgen Meier was subsequently contracted and worked with Armada Signs, the leading lighting promotion company in central Germany, on a striking illumination concept that emphasises the facade structure and architecture of the boiler house. The illumination consists of 12 Martin Architectural Exterior 600 and four Martin Exterior 200 colour changers located around the building which render the building's finely drawn grid structure visible in tones of blue and yellow. The luminaires powerful illuminant and optimised optical characteristic provide an even wash across the building while the fully programmable colour mixing system makes a nearly limitless spectrum of rich colors available. Technical aspects of the illumination were handled by Heinrich Müller of Licht-In-Form of Dresden.
Stadtwerke Leipzig has been upgraded enormously by Jürgen Meier's lighting design and now stands as a key feature of the city's night time skyline. In fact, the gas and steam turbine building could be mistaken for the town's newest high rise hotel.
