Lebanon - EvenLED, Martin Professional's bright system of LED panels for uniform projection, has been utilised in several TV studios around the world. One of those studios, Future TV in Lebanon, has implemented the modular system in its newsroom where two vertical columns of five EvenLED panels rise around a video wall to form a decorative background.

"Originally, the client wanted simply to change the set of the daily news show from a studio-based set into a newsroom environment set," says Ali Wazani, managing director of Wazani & Associates, an architectural firm responsible for some of the region's top television studio designs.

"Most of today's TV stations, international events and productions base their design on a branding and identity brief. It is the exceptional image that we are all striving to achieve. EvenLED can easily brand large surfaces with dyna

The Netherlands - Theater Zuidplein in Rotterdam has purchased and installed eight PR Lighting XL 1200 spots from Dutch distributors, Lightco, as part of a production upgrade. They have been mounted on the fixed grid at the rear of the 590-capacity Great Hall's stage, after a journey that began at the PLASA Show in London.

Said Gerrit Schottert, who runs Lightco: "We bought them straight off the stand, checked and tested them at our facility in Utrecht and then shipped them straight to the theatre. We had already done a demo of both the XL1200 and XL700s, and the clients had conducted their own research on the internet."

For the Zuidplein there were several advantages in this approach. "Firstly, because these were demonstration models we could supply at a good price, and at the same time they had the confidence that the fixtures had already been burnt in. But mo

USA - The culmination of an arduous campaign came when President-Elect Barack Obama held his presidential acceptance speech before a home town crowd of more than 100,000 revellers.

Called upon by event producer C3 Presents to light the rally was stage lighting rental and production company Christie Lites, lighting contractor and lighting supplier for the event.

"The job was somewhat unusual to light because it was outdoors and at the same time had to be lit for TV in a manner typical of an indoor studio," commented Huntly Christie, CEO of Christie Lites Orlando. "As such, it was a real mixed bag of lighting. However, the most prominent fixture on the site was the Martin MAC 2000 Wash XB. They were instrumental in making sure that the world witnessed this historic event."

Lighting designer for the event was Bob Peterson who described the evening and his a

The screens formed an integral part of Simon Kimmell's set design, for which the brief was to recreate a 'classically cliched' LE talent show look, complete with opening upstage centre screen for entrances and exits, and lots of video-driven LED elements.

The central screen comprised 14 panels wide by six high of Barco i6XP LED which split apart vertically and

Lighting director Dave Davidian put together a rig that includes 20 Elation Impression LED moving heads and 180 American DJ 64B LED Pro par cans. According to Davidian, Browne himself was "pivotal" in the decision to switch to LEDs.

"Jackson was very pro-active in looking for LEDs, because he's a very green-oriented person," said Davidian, who has worked for Browne since 1990. "He felt this would be a way to save power and do the right thing as far as his beliefs were concerned. For myself, I was curious about LEDs too."

Davidian selected products from Elation and its sister company American DJ on the basis of recommendation from his supplier,

Canada - Club manager Todd Williams describes Canada's On The Rocks Nightclub and Bar in Fort St. John, British Columbia as an uptown, big city themed club in a small town setting. That big city feel is due in large part to a Martin lighting effects package of smartMAC moving heads and Mania series effect lights.

The venue, a former restaurant converted to nightclub use, lies in British Columbia's sparsely populated north and features the biggest dance room in a 350 km radius.

Spaced evenly around the perimeter of a 21' x 21' truss suspended 16ft above the club's dance floor are Martin smartMACs, Mania SCX600 scanners and Mania EFX700 and Mania EFX800 effect lights. Surrounding a cluster of 17 mirror balls at the centre of the truss are Atomic strobes and Mania EFX500 effect lights.

Lighting designer Paul Normandale was tasked with devising a new means of integrating the visual components for the current Viva la Vida tour.

"For my part the band's desire for a viewing surface without the use of LEDs, was an interesting challenge, and one for which the Pufferfish system of internal projection provided a unique solution," states Normandale. "It allows not only media content, but also live relay footage (via the Hippotizers) in large scale arenas worldwide."

In all, six PufferSpheres were commissioned for the tour, forming a major part of the overall visual design as well as

UK - A co-production between the BBC and Metropolis Music, the 2008 BBC Electric Proms was staged last month at London's Roundhouse and featured a broad spread of contemporary music acts.

All lighting was supplied by High Wycombe-based Siyan for the third consecutive year. Lighting director Bryan Leitch utilised 16 i-Pix BB7 LED wash lights and 20 BB4s. Leitch came up with an original design concept that was developed by himself and Nick Whitehouse who produced all the technical drawings and programmed the show together with Leitch.

The design was shaped to fit the natural architecture of the building, accentuating the curves and spheres of the quirky Victorian former train-turning shed. The creative goal was to provide a dynamic multi-layered visual backdrop for the myriad of artists appearing over five all-action days of performance, including headline slots by Oasis, Burt B

UK - Lighting designer Arturo Ollandini is utilising Robe ColorSpot and ColorWash 2500 moving lights in his design for comedy duo The Mighty Boosh, currently enjoying a successful UK tour.

The show, produced by Phil McIntyre Entertainments, is a mix of comedy and music which, lighting wise, had all the requirements of rock 'n' roll with a bit of camp and a generous scoop of theatre.

It is Ollandini's second Boosh tour. He was left to his own creative devices to come up with a flexible rig that fitted in around the centre-stage set, built on a revolve with set dressing one side and musicians on the reverse.

He chose an all moving light rig because parts of the show were still "work in progress" and constantly changing when they first hit the road, so he needed complete adaptability to go with the flow and modify lighting at any point.
