Managing director Carl-Fredrik Malmgren remembers: "I was visiting with a lighting designer, as we were looking for a new console when, after one hour, he approached me to say, 'I have found the new console, an Avolites!' I thought it was out of my price range, but then when I checked it out I got a very interesting quote."

Avolites representative Tony Shembish informed them they were the first to purchase on the opening day of PLASA, making their model PRL001.

Sadly, though, the desk has now seen its last gig with Fremlab. With l

France - Anolis ArcSource Outdoor 36 RGB lighting fixtures have been installed in a 'winter garden' feature in the atrium at the newly refurbished and re-opened College Lucie Aubrac in Dunkerque, France - one of the country's first HQE colleges.

UK - A.C. Entertainment Technologies, an authorised UK distributor for German Lighting Products (GLP), has added the new Impression XL 5-colour version and Volkslicht LED models to its line-up of the innovative moving heads range.

A variation of the original Impression XL model, which utilises 240 K2 LEDs to deliver high light output and brilliant colour performance, the new 'RGBWW' version features five colours rather than the previous three. Adding to the red, green and blue diodes are two circuits of white - one rated at 3200K and the other at 7200K.

Adding two white channels to the existing RGB format gives designers more shades of colour than was achievable before, particularly with pastel ranges, and the ability to use single white LEDs for powerful and clean open white beams.

Also new is the Volkslicht fixture, which brings affordability without compromise to those wa

Poland - One of the biggest rental companies in Poland, Transcolor has extended its equipment inventory to include grandMA2 full-size consoles. It was a logical 'next step' for them with grandMA series equipment, having previously used the grandMA full-size 'series 1', the company says.

Marcin Michna, one of Transcolor's lighting designers explained the reasons for purchasing grandMA2: "After nearly two years of the completely reliability of working with grandMA 'series 1', Transcolor made the natural decision to purchase the same equipment. This time however we have invested in two grandMA2 full-size consoles, which have already been used on two TV Shows, Strictly Come Dancing X' and Got Talent II."

Continues Michna: "With LED technology now in everyday use, we realised that our existing control desks were not sufficient to manage all the differen

UK - When the Ministry of Sound London commissioned a bespoke Martin Audio stack two years ago it was just one step away from standardising on the brand throughout.

Standing in the way were the old 'Bertha' sub enclosures, whose heritage dates right back to Richard Long's epochal system at New York's legendary Paradise Garage in the late '70s.

Although the subs had been loaded with Martin Audio 18in drivers during that last upgrade, the end game - according to Martin Audio R&D director, Jason Baird - was to provide a complete active low-end enclosure.

Meanwhile, the Ministry's technical manager Alex Barrand was aware of development work taking place at Martin Audio HQ on a prototype - largely to provide low-end extension for Prodigy front of house engineer Jon Burton - but his interest really went into overdrive when he learnt that an active product would be commercially ava

New Zealand - Auckland War Memorial Museum celebrated its 80th birthday by turning on its new exterior lighting installation at the end of 2009. The venerable building on Auckland's skyline is made of creamy Oamaru stone and was a perfect subject for François Roupinian's subtle lighting design.

In the end he used a number of Martin Inground 200 full colour mixing fixtures to uplight the main northern portico and also the east and west fountains on the corners of the building. The Inground 200 is a discreet, programmable 150W buried luminaire.

In addition, he used a number of pole mounted Martin Exterior 200 co
