Germany - LumenRadio's CRMX technology recently helped light the opening festivities for Germany's largest drinking water plant. The facility is located in Arnsberg-Neheim, part of the densely populated Ruhr valley, and produces over 600 cubic-meters of drinking water every hour; enough daily water for more than 10m people.

Lighting designer Frederik Decker, principal of City Light & Sound, choose to focus on the impressive technology involved in the tightly controlled purification process and naturally stayed with a blue colour scheme to match the water theme. Decker, together with local firm Topas Technology, provided a lighting rig of powerful, yet inconspicuous, Litecraft LED fixtures from LMP to provide saturated colour washes and powerful highlights of key technical apparatus without adding much visible equipment.

The production team was initially concerned about a wirel

Taiwan - The city of Hsin-Chu has one of the biggest industrial parks in Taiwan, most notably known for its electronics industry. Far less known is the beautiful Hinterland of Hsin-Chu which only few of today's travellers get to appreciate.

It is here that Providence Maitreya Buddha Missionary Institute has found a place to set up its new monastery. The monastery offers facilities for arts and cultural events and is also designed to serve as a convention centre within its theatre hall (1446 seats). Together with its partner DLHG in Taiwan, MA Lighting proposed a MA Digital Dimmer dimMA compact installation (the space saving alternative to the modular dimMA range) as well as a grandMA2 ultra-light console.

"It was great to have Michael Adenau himself here to take a look. The circumstances have been pretty special and bringing in the founder and mastermind of MA Lighting sh

Europe - Lighting designer and long-time Jands Vista advocate, Rob Sinclair specified a Vista S1 console with two M1 wings to run lighting for Adele's recent 2011 international tour.

The system ran Jands' Vista v2 software, and on some sections of the tour operating duties were taken on by John Barker while Sinclair fulfilled other design commitments on his busy schedule - including tours by Peter Gabriel and Goldfrapp, also utilising Vista systems.

Sinclair's innovative design for Adele was sculpted using entirely white light, a bold aesthetic move which has won considerable acclaim. None of the moving lights were seen to move, there was minimal flashing, and was a real case of subtlety and suggestion to augment Adele's powerful performance and natural stage presence.

There was a distinctive back wall of 96 cone-shaped lampshades each illuminated from behind with a 60 Watt

UK - Black Light has created two dramatic lighting installations at the National Mining Museum Scotland. The installations bring the pithead and gantry of the museum to life at night and create a new night time landmark in the Midlothian landscape.

The project uses innovative LED technology to create the illusion that the pit wheel at the 19th century Lady Victoria Colliery in Newtongrange is once again turning. Similar technology is used to make it seem as if the famous gantry that crosses the A7 to the pithead is being thronged by miners carrying lamps.

"The project highlights our experience installing a wide range of architectural lighting schemes," says Black Light's Head of company development, Phil Haldane. "It shows that we are experts at working with, installing and hED systems."

The installations have a high visual impact. They are designed to dr

USA - Little Rock First Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas, is a tradition-rich congregation with an eye on the future. Built in 1972 and a foundation for the surrounding neighbourhood for nearly 40 years, the 1200-capacity church recently sought a rejuvenating update of dynamic light and colour.

Worship pastor at Little Rock First Baptist is Jerry Wilson who recently joined the staff with a vision to bring the church up to date with lighting gear that would complement the history of the church yet provide the flexible resources of current technology.

Lighting designer Robert Dicken of Full Focus Inc., lighting vendor on the project, worked closely with Wilson on the lighting renovation. "This was kind of a sensitive install because the church has basically looked the same since 1972," Dicken explains. "They were concerned that the congregation would be opp

USA - Coemar and LED Source - the distributor of Coemar LED products in the US , dedicated their LDI stand completely to Reflection LEDko.

Among the many features of this profiler is the flexibility of use projecting coloured gobos on the walls of the stand, made at the time with a transparency sheet and a standard printer.

UK - One year after its release, the worldwide success of Robert Juliat's Aledin LED zoom profile spot within the realms of television has shown it to be the fixture the studio market has been waiting for.

Growing pressure to cut energy consumption has seen many TV studios turning to LED lighting. Aledin has come into its own, brilliantly delivering powerful output with no loss of projection quality, says the company.

Not only does Aledin retain all the popular features, functionality and optical precision of the Robert Juliat brand, but its lower energy use (85W) and lower heat output simultaneously decrease running costs whilst taking the heat out of the studio itself.

"Aledin's long LED life means fewer hours spent on maintenance, while superb optics and sharp shutter cuts give clean gobo projection and the precise control needed to provide perfect key light on prese

UK - Northern Light has announced plans for an expansion of its events arm - NL Productions.

Colin Cuthbert, managing director of Northern Light, says, "Since we rebranded our event production arm, we have been working on some extremely high profile events, such as the MOBO Awards and this year's Enchanted Forest. This will also stand us in good stead for offering even better service to our smaller clients."

To assist in creating warehouse space and updating of equipment, Northern Light has set up an online auction of ex-hire equipment that is no longer needed.

Phil O'Halloran, head of NL Productions, says, "Our plans for expansion and investment in new equipment mean that we needed to c

Denmark - The Exterior 100 IP68 and Exterior 50 IP68 from Martin Professional are compact, fully weatherproofed luminaires built to withstand extreme outdoor and underwater environments.

These rugged LED luminaires are designed for applications requiring superb colour mixing or high quality white light for narrow to medium flood and spot lighting applications, says the company.

The Exterior 100 and Exterior 50 "emit a quality of light that traditional RGB systems can't match". The addition of white in the RGBW colour mixing system allows for a wider colour palette for washes of vibrant shades to subtle pastels. When high quality white light is required, cold, neutral and warm white fixtures are also available.

A colour calibration system eliminates the uneven colour projection associated with many LED lighting fixtures. The Exterior 100 and 50 emit like colours acr

UK - The new Chroma-Q Color Block 2 Plus is a higher output version of the original Color Block 2 multi-purpose LED fixture that retains the same versatile modular 'building block' design, single colour RGBA optics, high light output and theatrical grade dimming to create an all-round feature set.

The Color Block 2 Plus utilises the latest generation of LED and optics, resulting in 40% more output (750 lumens) than the original Color Block 2 (530 lumens) when the internal switch is set to full power.

For maximum convenience, it also features a Color Block 2 emulation mode, to simulate the lumen output of the original LED engine when used alongside other Color Block 2 fixtures.

With its extensive colour palette and high CRI of 90, the Color Block 2 Plus fixture is a master at creating vibrant bold colours and subtle theatrical hues. Combined with its built-in variable colour

DeGraw and Cook plan to visit 22 cities on a continental swing. DeGraw is performing songs from his fourth album, Sweeter, and Cook appears in support of his most recent album, This Loud Morning.

Lighting designer/director Scott Warner is responsible for maximising a limited lighting rig so all the bands appearing with DeGraw and Cook have a different look. He also serves as the programmer and operator for the tour bands.

Warner is also a first-time grandMA2 user. He's using the console to control not only Clay Paky Sharpys but also an array of Robe REDWash, Martin 700, Atomic Strobes and Lowel Omni lights.

"I saw the grandMA2 light at LDI and loved the look - it's a great-looking con

UK - Manchester- based lighting rental company dbn provided lighting and LED screens for the official Switch On of the City's Festive lights, for which 20,000 enthusiastic revellers packed into Albert Square outside the Town Hall to watch Tinchy Stryder hit the button.

dbn has lit the event for the last 10 years and the company's Nick Buckley was happy to do the honours again - both project managing and lighting designing - working directly for Manchester City Council.

A six metre wide temporary stage was set up beneath a giant Father Christmas structure which is staying in place for the whole Festive period. Above this, the dbn crew installed a sloping box truss, which facilitated positions for all their overhead lighting, and was covered with a stretched fabric canopy for weather protection.

Lighting fixtures on the truss included ARRI 2K fresnels, a selection of Molefey b

USA / UK - Lighting designer Jason Carroll has taken five GLP Spot Ones on tour with St. Vincent (the name under which multi-instrumentalist Annie Clark performs). Playing up to 1200-capacity mostly sold-out venues in the States, in support of the latest album, Strange Mercy, the tour then relocated to the UK and Europe, where Carroll has been able to source the same inventory - and add in some GLP impression 120RZ zooms for good measure.

Having worked with the band since 2009, Jason Carroll explained, "Previously I used a multitude of floor based LED par can fixtures to create a 'technicolor' stage look. I also had three white rectangle spandex stretchy shapes behind the band, to throw colour onto and intentionally cast tall shadows.

"But for the current tour, Annie wanted the lighting to be drastically different, with no backdrop pieces and a colour shift to

UK - Michael Forever - The Tribute Concert in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium featured Michael Jackson's greatest hits performed live by Beyoncé, Cee Lo Green, and Christina Aguilera, as well as a number of Michael Jackson's siblings.

On behalf of the Bristol-based TV production company Iambic, Dutch facilities company UNITED was charged with recording the concert. The challenges for Bolke Burnaby Lautier, manager operations sports and events, and his approximately 55-strong team were many, and included a very tight set-up schedule and the need to record the show in 3D format, so enormous importance was attached to ensuring flawless communication between all members of the production team.

The appropriate communications infrastructure was provided by equipment from RTS/Telex, the nerve centre being an RTS Advanced Digital Audio Matrix (ADAM) with a 144 x 144 port configura

Known for his global hit Fire Files, Owl City embarked on a massive world tour in 2011. Holst created visually stimulating looks with every show, each steeped in LED technology along with unique trussing shapes and black lite and strobe effects.

Equipment used along the way included VL 2500 Spot

Germany - Lighting designer Tobias 'Tobi' Deuring has become one of the first LD's to specify multiples of SGM's X-5 white strobe, on an arena tour. But rather than design it into a conventional stage set for a touring band he is using it on a world tour for award-winning German stand-up comedian, Bülent Ceylan.

Having worked regularly with the artist since 2009 it was to prepare for the latest show, Wilde Kreatürken, which has been playing arenas up to 13,000 capacity (such as the Cologne Lanxess Stadium) that he needed to provide additional punch and creativity.

"It is particularly important when you are lighting a solo performer to create spaces in order to make the light visible," states Tobi. "You have to create several layers to achieve depth - both in the eye of the camera and the beholder."

The concert was held at the Cape Town Stadium on 26 October and for the Johannesburg fans two days later, at The Soccer City Complex, FNB Stadium. A grandMA console was used for the event.

An enormous African thunderstorm the night before the Johannesburg concert certainly added a touch of apprehension and caused a four hour delay on the load in. However the Gearhouse team ensured the gig went ahead without a glitch.

Portugal - ETC's Portuguese dealer Luzeiro has supplied lighting and dimming for the Teatro da Trindade theatre in the centre of Lisbon.

The theatre, owned by Fundação INATEL, had an old dimming system which was badly in need of an upgrade; the question, says Luzeiro's commercial director Vitor Paiva, was how to fit all the new dimmer racks - which would serve the theatre's main stage - into the small space available.

"Teatro da Trindade has been our client for several years and came to us with a challenge," says Paiva. "In the end, we fitted over 264 channels of Sensor+ dimming into four dimmer cabinets.

"Sensor+ was a natural choice for the theatre technical director Carlos Garcia, who wanted a quiet, compact dimming system which would easily fit into the space. Meanwhile, the technicians insisted on easy access to dimmer information and state; easy r
