UK - Lighting, dimming and control manufacturer ETC is gearing up for a busy PLASA Focus 2012, in Leeds, 17-18 April.

The company's new Source Four LED fixture is set to receive its first major UK public showing, with demonstrations on the stand (S-C6), allowing visitors to compare its output to incandescent Source Four luminaires.

When the Source Four LED was demonstrated at Prolight +Sound in Frankfurt, it drew large, enthusiastic crowds.

The Source Four LED Tungsten and Daylight produce maximum brightness at their respective warm (3000K) and cool white (5600K) colour temperatures. And just like ETC's Selador Desire Lustr+,

Germany - For nearly 20 years, Circus Flic Flac has been synonymous with artistic, highly unusual entertainment and absolutely thrilling live shows. However, last year, Flic Flac ceased touring in order to concentrate on single shows and special events - such as the Christmas circus in Nuremberg.

Between the beginning of last December and end of January, the striking circus Big Top, coloured in yellow and black was raised for more than 60 shows, with over 1,400 people attending each day.

Jens Berthold, CEO of Germany's J&S Music, and Christian Griebel, technical director for the show, set the specifications. "We needed highly reliable fixtures. Due to arctic temperatures, far below zero at night and around 25°C during the shows, condensation was only one of the challenges we needed to face. Furthermore, dust, heavy use of fog machines and constantly changing temperatu

USA - High End Systems, DL.3 Digital Lights and intellaspot automated luminaires helped define the political landscape for The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) 2012. The week-long event in February drew thousands to the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, D.C. for presentations, press conferences, panel sessions and parties.

LD Matt Mills designed the lighting and the set, and programmed and operated the show for CMI Communications. He elected to use three DL.3 Digital Lights and 18 intellaspot LED automated luminaires, provided by Mainlight Industries.

Mills used the DL.3s in Collage mode, using two to create one seamless panoramic image above the podium for the press shots. "The press would get right at the downstage edge of the stage and take an upshot of each of the candidates at the podium. I thought it would be a nice touch if there was something in

A statement posted on the company's website called him a "legendary man", adding, "In addition to the creation of the amps, chosen by countless guitar heroes and game changing bands, Jim was also an incredibly humble and generous man who, over the past several decades, has quietly donated many millions of pounds to worthy causes."

USA - Nokia brought Times Square to a standstill last week as 30,000 people watched one of the biggest electronic take-overs of the iconic New York landmark for the launch of the Nokia Lumia 900.

Using the latest CGI technology the team behind the massive Hollywood blockbuster, i-Robot, created one of the world's largest LED displays. Nokia took control of nine of the square's famous electronic screens to ensure the crowd were immersed in light and music from every direction. The light show was introduced by international superstar Nicki Minaj, who sang a medley of tracks from her new album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.

A team of visual artist worked for more than 5,000 hours, day and night for more than three weeks, to create the hundreds of effects that were used on the large screens. All of the electronic screens were controlled from a mobile server that was f

UK - Maltbury will once again be exhibiting at PLASA Focus: Leeds (17-18 April 2012).

"This year we have some exciting new projects to show you including our work with electricity generating pavements - Pavegen," says the company.

Maltbury Staging has made its name in the performing arts field, but in recent years has worked on a number of collaborative projects in a range of very different areas.

"It is true that these projects often involve people standing on a raised structure but nowadays it is as likely to be a fitter in a factory, an engineer down a railway shaft or a group of excitable people producing electricity simply by stepping on a paving stone," the company adds.

But this is no ordinary paving stone. Pavegen is a revolutionary way to generate electricity: requiring no connection to the national grid and needing no special effort by those g

Behind these podiums, on the floor, Ayala placed 12 Q-Wash 560Z-LED wash fixtures, lighting the band while shooting bright beams towards the ceiling.

Ayala placed six COLORado Batten 72 Tour linear wash lights at the front of the stage bathing the floor and singer in colour. Placed at the base of the podiums other four COLORado Batten 72 Tour fixtures discretely lit the instrumentalists. Ayala programmed each grouping separa

Belgium - LumenRadio played a key role in the lighting of Music Centre De Bijloke in Ghent, Belgium.

The site started out as a medieval infirmary in the 13th century when Ghent was one of the largest cities in Europe. It was recently, after years of construction, reopened as a music centre with four world-class concert stages. The process included plenty of challenges as the building was completely void of any technical infrastructure and there were severe restrictions on what could be done to the original structure.

LumenRadio's Belgian distributor AVL was given the task to design the lighting control system that not only would have a minimal impact of the historic building and be for the most part invisible to the public, but that also would have to meet new stringent standards for energy efficiency. Luc Buytaert, Technical Manager at AVL, found the solution in a comprehensi

The Netherlands - A new package of Robe Robin 600 LEDWashes and Robin MMX Spots has been delivered to De Nieuwe Doelen, a 560 capacity venue in Gorinchem.

The popular and well patronised theatre is both a producing and a receiving house with a busy programme of over 200 shows a year featuring all types of live performance from music and dance shows to dramas and comedy nights.

Technical manager Peter Visser - also the main in-house lighting designer - was asked by the theatre's director to produce a plan to upgrade their lighting rig. They were regularly renting in moving lights for their own productions, and this situation reached a point where it became a more cost effective solution to purchase.

"We wanted a high quality brand," explains Visser, who included his full team of seven technicians in the decision making process.

They conducted several shoot-outs in

UK - Sky TV lighting director Malcolm Reed lit the studio show covering this year's Academy Awards red carpet arrivals and main awards ceremony broadcast to the British nation. Included in the large Martin rig supplied by Richard Martin Lighting was the MAC Aura, a key fixture choice for the show.

Reed used six Aura fixtures as part of the set and placed them in pigeon holes shooting straight out towards the camera. He comments, "I chose the Auras because of their unique dual light source which creates some amazing eye-candy effects. The silent nature of the fixture is great for TV studios and the smooth pan and tilt allows for nice dynamic movement effects."

Reed had other movers from Martin's LED range at his disposal as well. Located behind the set were four MAC 350 Entours. "The MAC 350 is a wonderful light, not only for its power output but also its optical
