Singapore - American progressive metal band Dream Theater has used Clay Paky Alpha Spot HPE 1500s and Clay Paky Sharpys, supplied by Singapore's Showtec Communication Pte, to deliver a dramatic light show at the iconic 1700-seater Kallang Theatre in Singapore.

The venue, which has recently been refurbished to become an Asian Arts and Culture Hub, is an important stop in the band's demanding 2012 world tour. Dream Theater is extremely popular in the region and even more so since its album, A Dramatic Turn of Events became one of the group's most successful yet, reaching number 8 on the US Billboard 200 and number one in ten different countries.

"Dream Theater's live shows have become bigger and more diverse since they formed back in 1985," reports band lighting designer Steve Baird. "They demand a sense of drama and high impact lighting has always been a c

UK - London's Royal Opera House has expanded its extensive HMI lighting stock by investing in Robert Juliat Cin'k 326 LFV 2.5K HMI Fresnels.

Robert Juliat Cin'k Fresnels are available with interchangeable lamp bases offering a choice of 1200W or 2500W HMI and 2500W or 5000W tungsten light sources, but Royal Opera House senior lighting manager, Nick Ware, particularly specified the HMI model.

"The HMI Cin'k Fresnel is ideal because the Royal Opera House already has in its possession a large number of Robert Juliat D'Artagnan 2500W HMI profiles," explains Ware. "The Cin'ks replace our old HMI Fresnels which were becoming worn out and obsolete, so finding spare parts for them was becoming increasingly difficult. But the Cin'ks use the same ballasts, header cables and many spare parts as our D'Artagnans which streamlines stock control and makes maintenance easy.&quo

Hoey came up with a design incorporating inflatables, described as Dr. Seuss meets Sci-Fi style, that reached beyond the stage and over the audience. The production design also included a massive compliment of AV and lighting equipment from brands like Robe, Clay Paky, Avolites, MA Lighting, Robert Juliat, LSC, and Selecon with support from local companies MGG Productions, AV Unlimited and Audi

London's National Theatre has received and commissioned one of the first Sensor3 installations in the UK. The abstract place making quality of the square is accentuated by 16 boxed trees and a lighting installation by artist Peter Fink. The art work creates an informal overlay over the paving grid using embedded LED programmable strip lighting. The presence of people in the squa

Australia - To coincide with the opening of their major redevelopment, Sydney's Museum of Contemporary Art hosted the Southern Hemisphere premiere of Christian Marclay's ground-breaking 24-hour video work, The Clock, which has attracted record crowds wherever it has been shown.

The Clock comprises several thousand short extracts from cinema history, each suggesting a particular time of day or referencing a specific moment, often through the appearance of a watch or clock-face. Marclay has stitched these extracts together to form a continuous visual sequence synchronised with the real time of your visit - if it is noon you'll be watching a scene referencing noon. Even more impressively, the scenes suggest countless interlocking narratives despite the constant changes in genres, eras, locations and plotlines.

Lighting and concept designer Mikki Kunttu used two grandMA2 light consoles and an MA NPU (Network Processing Unit) for control.

Kunttu commented, "The main themes were firstly the history of World Championships and the history of Finnish ice hockey. The world of ice hockey has a lot of respect for its past and its many legends, so I wanted to underline this in the piece. I also wanted to add a fantasy-factor, which is where the skaters come in. Then the last part was a full-on fire and lightning-style scene with a certain gladiator thread to kick off the games - kind of what you would expect in this type of a show.
