USA - The 2013 CMT Music Awards was staged at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee and featured a spectacular lighting design by Tom Kenny. The fan-voted awards show featured a rig which included 24 of Robe's newest moving light fixtures, the Pointe, along with a variety of Robe's other Robin series moving heads.

After a successful show with the new Pointe, just previously used on the MTV Upfront Presentation in New York, Kenny specified the multi-functional fixture for the CMT Music Awards.

This was the fifth year that Kenny has designed lighting for the CMT Music Awards, a live show, broadcast on CMT (Country Music Television) and attended by a live audience in a venue with a capacity of 15,000 people.

South Africa - Hip-hop artist, Snoop Dogg aka Snoop Lion, earlier this year played at two concerts in South Africa. At the Ellis Park Indoor Arena in Johannesburg on 19 May and at the Grand Arena at the GrandWest Casino in Cape Town on 21 May. In Cape Town, lighting designer for the event, Sean Caie, worked on what he describes as a solid platform - the grandMA2 light - to create a show which surpassed the requested technical rider.

UK - West London UK-based lighting and sound rental company Entec continues its long and productive 20 year working relationship with British band Blur, supplying lighting and sound equipment for the band's current tour.

This year, Blur embarked on a 30 plus date world tour which has seen the band play to fans around the globe, including dates across Asia, Europe, South America, as well as a headline slot at the Coachella Festival in California, with more dates to be announced.

Entec's Sound department is supplying a monitor and control system for the band's summer shows, working with Blur's engineers Matt Butcher (FOH) and Dave Guerin (monitors), while Entec Lighting is providing a festival specials package to Lighting Designer Dave Byars.

USA - City Theatrical reports new additions to its product line of low voltage dimmers and some changes to the existing low voltage dimmers.

Low voltage dimming has always been used for incandescent lamps in scenery, props, and costumes, and is often paired with City Theatrical's SHoW DMX wireless DMX to allow wireless dimming. The real growth in this area today is the dimming of LED tape, which has growing use in all areas of entertainment.

UK - He has been called "light magician" by Tony Chambers, Editor of Wallpaper magazine, and worked with major organisations and significant artists such as Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney, Louis Vuitton, Elton John, Beyoncé and Sting. When the light magician, Tupac Martir, together with Panalux were working on the presentation for the new ground breaking presentation of Nierka, in the Peacock Theatre in London, they decided to once again go wireless with LumenRadio's CRMX products.

USA - ADJ's new Pixel Pulse Bar will have entertainers and lighting designers thinking "outside the bar" when it comes to visual effects, says the company.

The Pixel Pulse Bar comes equipped with the added feature of five-zone pixel chase effects. Users can highlight five different colours on the fixture and create a striking spectrum of energy-driven chase effects for "a thrilling high-velocity lightshow".

As a result of its five-zone pixel control, the Pixel Pulse Bar allows entertainers and designers to be more creative and gives them the power to enhance and broaden the scope of their lightshows without adding multiple units to their lighting arsenal, said Alfred Gonzales, national sales manager for ADJ.

Mexico - When last year Liverpool, Mexico's largest department store chain, opened its flagship unit in Villahermosa, some 63 x PR-8800 LED fixtures (each containing 108 x 3W RGB LED's) were used to wash the building.

Now the Chinese manufacturer's Mexican distributors, Hermes Music, have confirmed that an even greater number of PR Lighting's LED sources have been deployed at the larger Liverpool store in Puebla, which was recently remodelled. And this time Hermes have specified 104 of the super bright XPar 390 spots to bring the building to life after dark.

Each RGB head contains 90 x 3W LEDs (24 each of RGB and 18 white) with full colour mixing and linear CTO. Critically, it also has a beam angle of 14° and field angle of 28°.

UK - Lighting rental companies Fineline and GLS were among the first two on the UK mainland to receive delivery of Robe's new Pointe fixtures.

Southampton based GLS took 24 and Bristol-based Fineline took 12 units in this initial delivery ... which was co-ordinated by Ian W Brown of Robe UK.

However Fineline's fixtures also went directly from Robe to GLS - and straight out on their first cross-hire - on European shows for the Flaming Lips, with lighting designed by Eric Cathcart.

After that, they finally found their way to Fineline where they went out again on the Eden Sessions staged at The Eden Project in Cornwall for which Fineline was contracted to supply lighting and rigging for the first year.

The Alex Followspot is a 2500w Tungsten unit and suitable for television studios and theatre productions. It contains a mechanical dimmer, which allows a constant colour temperature during dimming while additionally maintaining the flat beam which, as we know, is important when using sensitive camera equipment. Tom Lesh, house LD for The Other Stage chose to rig 28 SGM X-5 Strobes across three trusses as he explains: "We rigged 28 of them across three trusses - and kept two spare - to add some visual depth to the stage both for the audience and of course for the TV cameras. We also needed something that would cut through in the bright summer sunshine and these strobes were ideal. The Moscow-based Arlecchino Group, which supplies lighting to events across the region, provided the robust and lightweight Clay Paky A.Leda Wash K20s and the high output Sharpys for the launch of the restaurant on a boat, named Чaйka, or 'Seagull', which is moored in the centre of the city.

USA - It wouldn't be the Fourth of July without the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular and Robert Juliat Cyrano followspots helped light up the annual event, which was televised live from the Charles River Esplanade.

The free outdoor concert marked its fortieth anniversary. The event draws over 500,000 people each year to the Boston and Cambridge sides of the Charles River. Audiences wait with anticipation to hear the Boston Pops' now classic rendition of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture with real cannons, church bells and fireworks, The Stars and Stripes Forever with ceremonial American flag drop and confetti shot; and watch a final explosive fireworks array. UK - Blackout's team designed a custom-built touring truss structure for the first ever series of Sky Art's Portrait Artist of the Year competition, due on screens this autumn.

The reality TV show visited four locations across the UK - London, Cardiff, Glasgow and Dublin - with over 2,000 entrants battling out to win the title. The winner will see their work displayed in the National Portrait Gallery and awarded a £10,000 commission to produce a portrait of award-winning author Hilary Mantel.

After whittling the entrants down based on the portrait they submitted, 21 finalists per region were invited to each city and given four hours to paint a famous celebrity, who posed live. Called in by Papilo Production Management's Kate Wright and Lisa Shenton, Blackout was tasked with turning TV producers StoryVault Films' brief into reality.

UK - Bournemouth-based Complete Production Solutions Group (CPS) has made its first investment in Robe moving lights, including the new Pointe together with other fixtures from Robe's popular Robin range.

The company, headed by Richard Colegate and Chris Caton, has been providing rental and turnkey production solutions since 1996 and specialises in the high end corporate events market - including conferences and awards shows - the company also provides technical support for a lively mix of live performance events including dance shows, rock 'n' roll and outdoor classical concerts.

CPS is currently expanding steadily and the decision to purchase new moving lights followed careful assessment of all the options as part of a planned upgrade and replacement programme with their existing intelligent lighting stock.
