The Expo is jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and the local governments of six central Chinese provinces, attracting 30,000 business people, including some 10,000 foreign guests from 100 countries and regions. It features business seminars and investment fairs and also includes exhibitions of tourism, animation and automobiles. For its colourful opening ceremony four grandMA full-size, ten MA NSPs (Network Signal Processor) and a grandMA video media server were used.
300 square frames, which were altogether 43m in height and 100m in width, were built on a stage in the Henan Playground. Each square was illuminated by a moving light which was placed behind it and some LEDs, attached to the truss. Using projectors, large pictures could be generated, filling the entire square frames as a giant screen.
The whole system was divided into three sections, conventionals, moving lights and projectors. The rig comprised amongst others of 189 x Martin MAC600 wash, 64 Vari*Lite VL3000 wash; 24 Clay Paky Stage Color 1200 wash, 2 Barco H25 beamer and 2,365 conventionals.
Lighting design was by Weng Chun Pu and Yang Wei Dong. Quan Xiao Jie worked as technical support. ACE - Advanced Communication Equipment, MA Lighting's exclusive distributor in China, delivered the lighting equipment.
