According to Mal Turner, who set up the company in 1996 (originally to provide audio support), "Many of the venues we work are low on power and weight bearing provision, and since LED moving heads have come of age we decided to invest."
He looked at several options, but already had a trading relationship with MilTec (UK), distributors for PR Lighting. "We have bought PR fixtures in the past and found them to be reliable. The new XLED 390's fitted the bill price wise - and when we put a unit up against a conventional 575W moving head it knocked spots off it - there was a massive difference in light intensity.
"In addition, the speed of colour change response is exceptional as is the fact that they run silently - which is great for the corporate market."
MT Audio have purchased an initial four units but expect to have added more of these - or their big brother the XLED 590 - by the time the high-profile Hartlepool Tall Ships Race, for which they have won the contract, comes round in August.
Meanwhile, these versatile fixtures are equally at home inside or out, truss or floor mounted to provide vibrant colour-changing washes at the front of the stage.
"We also handle a number of awards ceremonies which take place in either marquees or hotels where there is only 13A power supplies - and again these are ideal."
