UK - This year's PLASA exhibition will see the launch of several new products from Mackie Designs Inc brands EAW and SIA. PLASA will be the official UK launch of the new EAW KF730 SLAM (Small Array Module) and the European introduction of EAW's innovative new DSA (Digital Steerable Array) Series.

The KF730 SLAM packs a six-driver, horn-loaded KF Series design into an amazingly compact enclosure, setting a new standard for output per cubic metre. The full-sized mid/high horn fills the entire face of the enclosure, ensuring broadband 110° horizontal pattern control. The unique Phase Aligned LF design extends horizontal pattern control into the LF and a bi-amplified powering configuration (passive mid/high) reduces total system cost and complexity.

Users can quickly and easily construct vertical arrays ranging from 4-18 KF730 enclosures. As with the larger KF760 Series, the size and configuration of a KF730 Series array defines its vertical coverage. The KF730 SLAM utilizes a versatile rigging system that permits box-to-box angles of 12°, 6°, 3°, and 1.5°, but always keeps module faces contiguous. Under normal conditions, easily hung arrays can cover listening areas ranging from approximately +10° to -70° along the vertical axis. SLAM also permits radical array configurations that can cover any vertical angle.

The new DSA Series represents a radical step forward for small to mid-sized permanent installation applications. In essence, the DSA Series simplifies the KF900/PPST technology that permits digital steering and aiming of an array's output and adapts it to applications where column loudspeakers would typically be specified. Each driver in a DSA Series loudspeaker enjoys its own individual amplification and digital signal processing (DSP). Using EAW's free DSA Pilot software program, users can vary the vertical coverage pattern from 15° to 120° as well as aim the coverage ±30°.

Power is housed in a compact column speaker-type enclosure that requires no external amplification or processing. Users only need to connect AC power, audio signal, and network communications cables. DSA Pilot recognises each loudspeaker connected to the network and allows users to control all of them from a single interface.

Finally, SIA - another brand in the Mackie Designs family - will be showing SmaartLive Version 5.3. SmaartLive, SIA's dual-channel FFT-based audio measurement software, provides real-time sound system measurement, optimization and control. It combines powerful audio frequency measurement, analysis and data logging capability with a highly intuitive, user-friendly interface and the ability to remotely control an extensive list of top name equalizers and DSP processors.

The latest release, Version 5.3, includes a new device control display in Spectrum mode that provides access to all functionality for remote control of supported equalizers and loudspeaker processors-a capability previously only available in Transfer Function Mode. This feature can greatly enhance the power of SmaartLive as feedback hunting tool in live sound reinforcement applications.

EAW and SIA can be found on the Mackie Designs stand - J80.
