Thus the station felt comfortable in asking the Hertfordshire-based resource to devise and project manage a rear-projected display wall solution for their newly revamped ITV News main studios at their London HQ. While on site, the company was also tasked with providing a similar infrastructure for the London Tonight studio.
"We realised that the limited space behind the four large displays also had to incorporate walkways for fire exits," says Marler-Hausen, "We immediately recommended Paradigm and set up a demonstration of their 'Easy-Erect' rig." The Bedford-based company is accustomed to working in confined spaces where their cradle and mirror assemblies can suspend projectors at the critical angle for screen optimisation.
When Paradigm learnt that the screen design was curvilinear on both the horizontal and vertical axis they devised a bespoke solution, producing a series of large, side-on 3m x 3m mirrors, from which to reflect images from the four Sanyo PLC-XF31 5200 ANSI lumens projectors. A Virtual Reality environment has been created in the studio. To assist presenter cueing when they are working on the wall, the mirror rigs provide an indication of the broadcast image on the chromakey screen. The image is controlled so as not to upset the main chromakey background.
Similarly restricted by space in the London Tonight studio, Feltech have installed two 50" Pioneer plasma screens either side of a 2 x 1 projection screen (in standard aspect ratio) depicting the London skyline. Another Paradigm custom mirror rig has been configured to house both the DP5100 digital projector and a JVC DLA-G20 within the same cradle (the latter used as a back-up in the event of a main projector failure).
