New to the customer services department are Eleanor Bound (née Eleanor Strathie, and known as such during her time at lighting supplier White Light), Tessa Randall and Michelle Green. They join the rest of the customer services team at DHA's London office. This team is responsible for handling all customer enquiries and, with their comprehensive knowledge of DHA's full product range, can offer advice on the best products for particular projects or for creating particular effects. DHA Lighting's accounts department is also growing, with Carol Galatola joining the accounts team.

West, who was UK sales manager of Harman Audio's Professional Products Division during the nineties, has since acted as marketing man for several other companies, including Creative Labs, Mackie, Oram Pro and Soundtracs. USA - A.C.T Lighting Inc, the North American distributor of MA Lighting, Zero 88, Artistic Licence and Selecon, has announced the hiring of industry veteran Tim Bachman as sales manager. USA - Pro audio industry veteran Tim Schaeffer has been appointed director ofsales for Allen & Heath USA. The company was established in 2002 by NAPA to provide US distribution for the British audio mixing console manufacturer.

Schaeffer has over 20 years' experience in the pro audio business and a successful track record in sales management, business development, and strategic marketing. For the last two years he was vice-president of the Public Address Business Unit at Klotz Digital America in California, where he was responsible for all sales and marketing management of the newly established business unit.

Prior to that, Schaeffer was general manager, western region, for AMX Corporation. He joined AMX in 2001 following five years at Otari Corporation, where he rose to the position of vice-president.

Acclaimed lighting designer Rory Dempster passed away on 7 February. A pioneering lighting designer, Rory worked with Andy Phillips at the Royal Court in London during the 1960s and 1970s, establishing the Court's 'white light' principle - that nothing was more important on the stage than the actor's face. During this time, Rory worked with some of the best playwrights of the day, including Trevor Griffiths, Michael Frayn, Howard Brenton, Athol Fugard and David Hare. He could also change style when the show demanded, such as in his design for the Royal Court's original production of The Rocky Horror Show.

Canada - Lighting industry veteran Todd Hucul has returned to Canada to assume the position of operations manager at Q1 Production Technologies' Vancouver facility. Todd began his career in the lighting industry at Westsun, first at its International head office in Winnipeg in the mid-80s, transferring in 1997 to Washington to serve as operations manager in Seattle before going on to set up the Las Vegas office. In 2002 Todd took a position as shop manager for VLPS in Los Angles.

Australia - New Zealand-based lighting manufacturer Selecon has appointed industry veteran Peter McKenzie as its new market manager for Australia. With the support of the Selecon factory team and the Australia wide dealer network, McKenzie will be working to maintain and improve customer service levels, reduce delivery schedules, and offer market specification and training including promoting Selecon products through all Australian theatre training facilities.

Prior to 2000, Peter was a sales director at Show Lighting Australia, responsible for Clay Paky sales in the Australasian region. USA - Vari-Lite has appointed Julie Smith to oversee its customer service and technical support departments, in order to keep pace with increasing levels of business. In addition to her customer service duties, Smith will also oversee re-organization of the company's internal and external technical training program. Smith reports directly to Genlyte Controls' general manager, Steve Carson.

"My main goal is to improve customer response time," Smith said. "In the live entertainment industry, end users can't afford to sit around waiting for answers. I also believe that if we strengthen our training program, we will increase the level of support we are able to provide through certified Vari-Lite technicians in the field."

Germany - EVI has announced that Frauke Jungbluth took over the position of export manager, Western Europe, for Dynacord. EVI also announces that Christian Gress is taking over additional responsibilities. Having taken on the position of sales manager for Midas Venice at the beginning of last year, he will now take on the role of export sales manager, Western Europe, for both Electro-Voice and Midas Venice.

Croft started work in the stage lighting business in 1991 after graduating from Manchester University. After a couple of years' technical experience in the warehouse, he headed off on 'tour' for the next six years with Rolling Stones, Van Halen, M People and Take That, among others. The last six years, he has worked as an account handler at Vari-Lite, looking after some of the company's biggest and newest clients.
